Congratulations Craig. I love that car. If you end up keeping the car in Phoenix, I'd love to come over and check it out. I'm most interested in what was done to stiffen the body. I also have a Lenk Targa with all that that implies.

Targa on the way

Malcolm sent me the paperwork that the car is leaving Liverpool on 2/19 and s/b in Newark 2/28. I'm trying to borrow an enclosed trailer for the trip back to Long Island, NY.
Other than Carlisle I don't know what other shows it will be in .. or where else I will be able to take it this year.. My daughter (in Phoenix) is due to have our second grandchild in March but when I go there I doubt that the targa will go with me. I may just fly for a change.. Most likely the Targa will spend the summer in NY.

Paul (Azopelnut) Yes I remember you coming down the ramp on I-5 when I broke down between Bob's Big Boy and the Hotel. I owe you one. How about I let you drive the Targa when I do get it to AZ (but you have to come to my house in PHX.) By the way how many Arizona Opel owners are there out there now?

Keith, So are you going to be at Carlisle.. Thanks again to you and Ron for troubleshooting the Black GT on the OMC 25 showfield.. It's run great ever since.. BUT I still have the auxilarry headlights .. just haven't been able to work on the GT when I do get to PHX. I swill be back ther soon but w/o the Targa.. My 2nd grandchild is due to arrive next month.

I have a question for all the southern Opelers. Hasn't anyone put a confederate flag on the roof and a 01 on the door of an Orange GT yet.(BQS4)? I just happed to have an orange one sitting behind my fence. My son was a "Dukes of Hazzard" nut when he was growing up -- his room looked like he was in the deep south not 1 hour outside NYC. I look forward to seiing you all at Carlisle.

Later....Craig

I've thinking about it. My brother Laurie in Cambridge is a big Healey fan (He's President of the Southern Ontario Healey Club) and has a pair of restored 3000's (a '61 BT7 and a '65 BJ8) and a '56 100 (before they became known as 100-4's) which is almost finished (all frame-offs, work done on a rotisserie, all done by him). We're talking about me flying to Toronto, and each of us driving one of his Healey's. Unless Rob happens to need a spare pilot for an Opel...
And to have the chance to see Malcolm's Targa (which I guess we're going to have to rename "Craig's Targa") might be the final straw. Hmm, if that only weren't the big Holiday Long Weekend (Victoria Day) in Canada. What can I give Myrna in exchange....?

Might be possible. Our neighbours moved to Cincinnati last summer, and one of their daughters is Rachel's (our 9 year old) VERY best friend, and Dave and Diane are right up there for both Myrna and I. And Kat (Crazy Opel Lady of Leduc) moved there last fall. So it COULD happen that we (Myrna and I) could fly into Cincinnati and I would drive on to Carlisle. Looks like about 500 miles though, so it's not exactly a short trip. Kind of in the middle of the school year, but since we're not doing a Cuba or Asia or California trip this year....
Might be a discussion to have in the van tomorrow on the way up to the ski hill.

Sale of Malcolms GT

Then, at the end of the OMC Picnic (just after we had finished playing with your GT), Jim Marchitto told me he sold it (that day, in fact) and mentioned a price. But I thought it was bought by Don Stewart (aka Fly Boy). Can you tell us the story?
Hi Keith,

Well Don and Debbie Stewart had made a verbal committment to purchase Malcolm's Targa at the 2005 picnic, so I thought we had a deal when I told you.
However Don did change his mind.
Just before I called Craig I gave Don 1st right of refusal via voice mail.
Don did not respond so I offered it to Craig.
Hope that clears up any confusion.
Sorry you did not tell me you wanted to buy it, I surely would have called you to offer it to you too.

Shoot Gene, that one don't even have snuff stains running down the doors. Ain't no foreign car ever going to be no General Lee! You an' me know 'at "fer shore". Them Duke Boys never dipped snuff neither, from what I can tell...them teeth was far too white.

I miss the South dude!

Insurance on the Targa

I called my agent about insurance on the Targa and was told that I needed the car appraised FIRST. Until then it will only be covered for $7000. I have JC Taylor . they insure the Car and Driver 1900 , my (son's)Bugeye, 2 Opel Gt's and the 85 Mustang Drag Car for anywhere from $5000 to $20,000.. I've sent pic's of all but never had any appraised prior to getting insurance..

Any suggestions on how to have an appraisal on a car that is being shipped to the US and can not be appraised until it gets here? Also any suggestions on who to use for the appraisal when it gets here?
