Targa
Yes I'm concerned that something could happen on my way home. 2 years ago on my way home from Carlisle I damm near wrecked when someone lost something off his car a feww cars ahead and everyone was weaving all over trying to avoid the mess.. I will feel better knowing it's insured just in case...
When I trailered the Black GT to Calif I used the Lightning which had Brakes that could stop it staraight and quick.. The Bronco brakes are not nearly as good..but I'll just leave plenty of room around me.. Hope noone around me rear ends the guy their following because they're looking at the Targa and not the road. Regarding the wheels... there had been a different set that I really liked in some earlier pics but the more I see these wheels the more I like them Hell the more I look at the pics of the car the more I like it ... It Even has room in the back for my grandson... Malcolm said that it sails on the 19th ... I'm already smiling... |

Craig,
Try Condon and Skelley...they do antique, classic and custom cars and show cars for a reasonable price. But, start now because it takes a few weeks with need for pictures and appraisals, etc. We have all of ours through them. There are mileage and driving limits Vickie |

Yeah, you sure don't want to lose that mind of investment over a few hundred in premiums. As far as people looking at the targa vs. the road, won't you have it covered Craig? Would imagine this time of year would not be condusive for trailing such a nice car uncovered.
Is anyone else having problems with viewing the galleries? I'll be scrolling through mine, or someone else's gallery (such as yxy's to look at Craig's new baby again) and after a few pics, I'm in some other gallery. Brett |

Classic auto insurance
I have three cars insured with Grundy, they are really easy to work with and their rates are very competative, you may want to get a quote from them as well as someone else, just to compare. Baz, from the looks of it Malcohm either is or knows a good "panel beater", very nice work, show quality as it was meant to be.

Owning a Targa GT myself with over 30K invested to date. A Full Appraisal
by a Licensed Appraiser is "Mandatory". The cost is nominal, and once on file with you & your insurer, will greatly help you IF.... anything should, could, or would happen. Ask me, I've been their & done that with Insurance Companies! Appraisals have saved my butt. Which reminds me, I need to have another one done to get the car up to date. Malcolms Targa
Hi All and Craig,
I am very happy that YXY is going to the States..............you guys will get to see all the love and work that has gone into the car. As for Craig.....you truely deserve to own it.......I couldnt have wanted it to go to a better home. I was in fact offered over $7000 dollars more here in the UK by a young guy who would have probably ruined it in a short time. I resisted the cash as its more important to me to know that it will still be around in the years to come. It will give Craig great pleasure to own the car and I am sure that you will all enjoy seeing it. I think that the name Malcolms Targa or YXY's car should now be changed to Craigs Targa, if someone could do this I would appreciate it. Malcolm |

I thought that was a wonderful sentiment, and I understand what you are saying, but I also think that that GT will always have a part of you in it. It was your dream and your modifications that makes it what it is today. And though it may now be owned by Craig, it is much like a "Shelby Cobra" or a "Selene Mustang". Some Opelers are purists, and that is a good thing too... I love to see a well kept or well restored GT. But, I also love seeing other people's vision of what their GT can be. So, in my mind, unless Craig does some major changes (and this is not meant to be of any offense to you Craig, I only WISH that I was going to be the proud new owner) it will always be the "Malcolm GT" or YXY. It is a great testament to what you saw in your GT and what others might want to see in their updated GT. I also was impressed by the fact that you took a loss to see it go to a great enthusiast such as Craig. Maybe Craig's MGT? lol.. I don't know. But I do know I have always enjoyed looking at pictures of your car and really look forward to seeing it and meeting Craig in person someday. (that is if I have not disingratiated myself with this post).

What to call the Targa
First to Malcolm THANKK YOU It isn't easy to pass up a better offer in order to see the car go to someone that will really appreciate the car. It was very
generous of you. As far as to how the car is known. I do agree that it's something like having a Shelby, the man with the ideas to move an Opel GT to the next level deserves recognition.. I think of the car as the "Malcolm Targa", so I guess it's craig's Malcom Targa. If you folks don't think that works and want to make suggestions, I'm listening.. The car should be crossing as we speak and be into Newark on the 28th. I'm still awaiting word on use of the enclosed trailer. Short of that, Malcolm has tucked the cover he had made for it behind the seat. |

No Suggestions/comments on what to call the Targa?
I received the paperwork from the shipping company along with a small bill stating that the Targa w/b in New Jersey on/about the 28th. I expect it to take a couple of days for the car to be released to me. My goal is to pick it up Friday. I will not have an enclosed trailer so I'll put the cover on it and use the open trailer. I have my F production MG Midget at a friends Honing shop and may have to put that in my SOFT garage so the Targa has a warm home. I need to find more garage space or movea couple more cars out to AZ. Craig |

Kick a little asphalt

A word of warning about traveling with a covered car on an open trailer: I know people that have done this, and realized upon reaching their destination, that the whipping action of the cover against the car had actually removed paint on long distance hauls. I also know a guy that bought a brand new Dodge Ram and figured he would hang a big red bow on the front at Christmas time. The tails of the bow took the paint off the leading edge of the hood after flapping in the wind during a trip up the N.E. extension of the Turnpike to his hunting camp. I would hate to see your new toy get damaged before you even get to drive it.

Yes, please let us know what you would prefer to have us refer to it as. I am sure we will be referring to it many other times in the future since it is such a unique GT. As for shipping it back home, I wish I could help in that matter. I would love for you to be able to take it home enclosed, but that is your choice/ability. This is one GT I wouldn't mind helping with the transport cost just to keep it in the great shape it is currently in. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know( as in contributing a few dollars towards renting a covered carrier?) Of course that assumes you have a vehicle that can haul a heavier hauler. Let us know... I am sure that many of would be glad to see that it gets the best!
Again, congrats! (o: Brett |
