valve lash
this is what has worked best for me over the years. this is for hyd lifters(i have done this on solids with good luck but this is not propper for solids) cut the top out of steel valve cover over valve adjusting nuts-leave as much as possible at front so timing chain dosnt sling oil out. do standard hot running gm valve lash adjustment. ie. back off nut till rocker taps tighten until it just stops tapping tighten slowly 1 turn. if engine does not smoothe out back of 1/4 or so until is smoothes out. this lets you get a good adjustment real fast and as i have found that this adjustment can be diffrent for diffrent oil pressures and lifter condion it has saved me allot of time. some engines will only take 1/8 to 1/4 turn down from no tap.these engines are usualy reman/rebuilt with old lifters/cam ect--have had engines with all new stuff that needed to be fuged on the adjustment from lots of past gm v8 and opel this saves headachs good luck David |
