Opel GT club NL 30 years on Dutch TV

Nice item regarding 30 years Dutch Opel GT club, broadcasted on Dutch commercial TV.
Nevermind the 15 sec commercial which sometimes starts before the actual item.
For those who are interested: parts can be translated.

For those who couldn't understand well: in Holland (yes a small European country with approx 16 million inhabitants) about 700 to 800 GT's still drive around!!!! Can't say the Dutch lack [a] good [sense of] taste.

It looked like all of them were there.
Wish we could muster up that many at a show. It would do a person's heart good.

What were the general comments regarding the new Opel GT that appears at the end? How is that car viewed by the classic GT owners?

Thanks!

And now, direct from your "front-line" correspondent here in the US, and courtesy of BMS (Bartsch Media Services):

" . . . as an "original GT" enthusiast, what do you think of the new GT?"

"It's really a neat car. It's especially nice that the name returns again. It's a completely modern car, forty years later, a two-seater, rear-wheel drive, engine front-to-back and the same concept, but in a completely new skin. It attracts a whole new generation in much the same way that the original did in '68 . . . it attracts an audience that is usually not attracted to Opels!"

It's great that Tekenaar acts as an interpreter. Saves us Dutch guys a lot of work! As ZmokE already mentioned: we have to look up every word, takes a lot of time.

Fantastic to watch this and to see two friends being interviewed.

It's weird watching Louis van Steen being interviewed in his mother tounge but no matter what he talks about GT's in dutch or english with exactly the same enthusiasm.....good friends of mine elsewhere on the continent call it talking 'with hands and feet' and it's amazing how the language barrier can be broken down.

It's also ages since I've seen Maurice van Cevecotte (sorry if the surnames spelt wrong), I think it was the Conrero Special Euro Treffen (maybe 8yrs ago)......did the Conrero make it, does anyone know how his restoration is coming on?

I'm hoping to do one of the Euro meets next year......no doubt various clubs will be celebrating 40yrs!

Well...it looks one big family, those GT admirers.
The man with the baseballcap sold me a nice set of rims, for not too much. Very kind person.

Belgium gt club aprox 100 members,still driving aprox 120 to 150 p:
According to the interview there are approx 400 members of the Dutch GT club (probably not all own a GT), while about 700 - 800 GT's still drive around in the Netherlands (including mine, and I'm no member of the club and I'm not planning to become one).
According to an item about Opel GT in the Dutch magazine Auto - Motor Klassiek (Auto - Motor Classic) of last June there are about 1000 GT's in the Netherlands of which 800 are registered.
The German figures can be found on mr. Rudiger Cordes's homepage (Opel GT-Seite von Rüdiger "zulassungsstatistiek"). On 1-1-2007 at total of 1900 GT's were registered in Germany. Together with the 150 in Belgium we now come to a total of approx 2850 only in these 3 countries. However I don't think there will be a lot more GT's in the other European countries (100 - 200 ???). So only the US numbers have to be added to come to the total amount of GT's still driving.

Come guys.....ever GT counts here!!!!

In the UK we have 60 people registered to the Opel GT UKOC.....that said, I've owned 12, the Chairman has owned a similar number and at least 2/3 other guys have owned / broken 8 cars each +. With this in mind I would put the UK ownership to 100+ and infact the general feeling her is of a minimum of 100, but definately no more than 150-175.....I'd be very suprised if there were 200 on Uk soil.

Add that onto the numbers, plus France (is Hiro from France, maybe he can share his thoughts, plus Italy, Spain, Austria, Switzerland.....of which I know there must be a good 200+ from the last 2 clubs mentioned at least)...

That takes the numbers to 3200+.....so where do we think we're going to end up. The feeling I've gathered from Europe over the years has been 10,000-15,000 GT's. It would be nice to think there's that many out there......and no matter what the number, we're all part of a rare breed.

NB......not wishing to upset any of our other 'international and world-wide members' my numbers are purely based on what info I've gathered over the years.....I know I've missed out GTJim and others out there around the globe.....so come on make your numbers count!
