Route 66 meet on Spike TV....
But Spike TV just ran HorsePower TV with Host Joe Elmore covering this years Route 66 Festival. Opels got great coverage with Joe interviewing Jim Erickson and Dallas Mize. Most of our cars were on screen at least momentarily. I caught it on VHS but have no way to transfer it to the computer. It may be run again Tommarow AM (Sunday 11-4-07). Or later in the week. Also it's available on HorsePower's web site for download I believe. Nice job Jim. You did us proud. You too, Dallas. Gee my car looks good on tv.

I tried to download the episode both in IE and Netscape, no go. so I tried to download one of the earlier episodes, no go again. I guess they're not setup for Vista OS yet. I'll try again on Margaret's Vaio with XP.

I've got two episodes coming on in an hour, I'll record them both and see what comes up. It's kinda funny, the episode in question is shown on their site, but you can't access it.

My TV sched says the RT. 66 episode with Opels will re-air Sunday morning on Spike at 11 am EASTERN TIME. Not sure about local times in your area.
Hope somebody comes up with a copy. I'll watch and see. Jim

I recorded both segments today. It turned out the Opels and Route 66 were in the second segment. It's in my DVR for the next two weeks, before it goes in to ether land. Just for grins and giggles I timed the Opel piece and it's 45-47 seconds long. I can record it on a +R or -R DVD disc after I find out which is compatible with my DVD recorder. I can then put it in my computer, I think, then find out how large a file it is and maybe get it on the site with Gary's help. I'll play with it tomorrow after the Charger's game.

I've got it on disk too if we need it. Dallas did a good job. Oh, and my whole life nobody can spell my last name correctly. Everybody adds a 'k' or spells it like the phone. The first time it was messed up was at Ellis Island in 1899. It was supposed to be 'Erikssen' but they gave it the short and sweet treatment of 'Ericson.' I'll bet others here know how their surname was butchered by immigration. Any takers? Jim

I know how hard it is to get last names spelled correctly. Mine is "Paar" and nearly every time it's miss spelled "Parr". It's been a life long struggle to correct people. -Mark Paar (not Parr dammit!)

My wife came from the Hawken family of StLouis MO, the Hawken family that made the famous Hawken Mountain Rifle that many of the fur traders of 1800-1840s used. I have seen two originals in my life. I have two replicas which I hunt deer with. Her 3 or 4 times great grandfather was in the civil war and they spelled his name Hawkins instead of Hawken. It was such a problem for him after the war he left it alone. So when the very large Hawken family gets together for a family reunion some are Hawken and some are Hawkins. Just some trivia since you asked.

Mark,
No worries, I was just fooling around with the TV people. Par for the course, as I'm sure you've heard too many times given your own last name. And Tom, I have heard of that rifle, had no idea you were so famous! I think the family name thing is interesting (and ought to make you careful about who you marry!) Jim

No problem, The Chargers were trounced by a better prepared team today. I just hope they get their act together by next weekend. What you saw today was not the Chargers I'm used to seeing.

Spike TV
Yes, but I believe in Gulf Port a show will be coming up on the Spyder highlighted again on My Classic Car with Dennis Gage. By the way, anyone want me to build them a Spyder????? What the heck, with all the national attention, it might be a good conversion to persue.

Paul, I'll be working on doing that later today. Which ever works, then I'll post the results with a link.

My father's family is from Sweden and left Atvitaberg for America in 1899. I have never been back but would love to visit and see Norway too. You could take me for a short tour in one of your Opels! Jim

I know the feeling well. Throughout my K-12 schooling, only one teacher ever pronounced my name correctly...yes, it was my french teacher. Our family name was spelled Leger originally, dating back to some of the earliest French settlers in Canada. Ironically I'm also Acadian (look it up!) on both sides of my family too (Legere on my dad's side, LeBlanc on my mom's). My dad's father had the name legally changed to Legere probably 50+ years ago since it got butchered less. It still got butchered, just a bit closer however!
Without the 'e' on the end most people pronounced it sort of like 'ledger'. In truth it's pronounced more like 'lay-jhair' in french when the correct accent grave and accent aigu are applied, but I don't even say it that way myself, so I don't expect others too! I pronounce it like 'le-jhere' (soft g) in good old US english. Bob Last edited by RallyBob; 11-05-2007 at 04:09 PM. Reason: added links |
