OPEL GT - The Movie! Production started !

Hi Folks,

a couple of weeks ago I decided to mix my profession with my non-film-related hobby and to make a documentary film about our OPEL GT.

If nothing goes (dramatically wrong), it will premiere at our Europe Meeting in May 2008 (see other thread). A DVD is planned of course too (Summer / Autumn 2008). Maybe we have to check the market first, to see whether there'll be enough interest by foreign buyers to justify/finance an english subtitled version. A strong interest might lead to an alternative english soundtrack for the narration (the original voice over is in German as well of course).

Shooting started with Gerry Lenk (LENK Tuning) and IRMSCHER here near Stuttgart. Racing legend Hans Herrmann agreed to be filmed (he acted as test driver for the GT-project in 1967) as well as others...

I still need a title for the film. ANY IDEAS ??

More news & impressiones HERE IN THIS THREAD.

That's cool, Mike.
I hope there will be some racing in there! The GT has been used on pretty much every type of racetrack there is, correct? Some high bank oval track footage exists of a yellow GT doing battle...
I'll think on some titles. Give me a minute or two...

No Opels were harmed in the filming of this movie.
However two Mustangs, a Pinto, and a Capri were hospitalized.
One Mustang was euthanized the next morning.

In case we do produce a codefree R0 DVD with english subtitles (and probably english VO for the narration), how can we sell these to you?
I mean we won't mail single DVD's from here to the US as this is too expensive for the buyer ($10.00 approx.). Is there anybody here, or does anybody know somebody who might be interested in importing a bigger number for the US market?

OGTS or Opel Gt Source.

You Might have some luck with OGTS being an import source, otherwise I know I have purchased tapes/dvds from over the pond an just have to pay the higher shipping,

I was thinking of maybe a smaller company that sells GT -parts, books, posters & other memorabilia for instance..
We will print approx 2000 DVD's and have to forward bulks of them to dealers as we can't ship them all from here. Takes much to much time and effort and would lead to a higher price for single DVD's...

Mike,
We have a 3d model of the Opel GT that we are converting for use in our software.

Here are some images of it:
www.dustinproductions.com/opelgt/GT-A18.jpg
www.dustinproductions.com/opelgt/GT-A19.jpg
www.dustinproductions.com/opelgt/GT-A20.jpg
www.dustinproductions.com/opelgt/GT-A21a.jpg

The beautifully crafted model was created by a young man named Frank Meyer (German I think).
Frank gave us the model with the understanding we wanted to someday offer some animations to the Opel community.

We use 3ds Max for our crash animations, and are in the process of converting it from the exported files. It will take us a while, but when we are done it will be fully animatable, allowing us to create driving sequences etc.

Let me know what you think.

Nice.
What year are you calling it? I ask just because it has fender badges like a 68-70 but pop out side windows like later models and later style wheels too. Not to be picky or anything

Not sure what year we'll end up calling it, but regardless the guy that made it did a fantastic job, the interior is modeled as well.

The biggest problem is time.
Perhaps I can spend a little time on it each day till i get it all converted.

The model came in as a obj which is a universal 3d format.
I want to convert it to 3d Studio Max as I have a lot of vehicle simulator plugins, and can make it look quite realistic while driving.

thanks,

I agree - I would pay the higher shipping to get a single copy.

Last week I filmed Hans Herrmann for the GT - film. Cool guy, a real champion. It was hard to follow his Mercedes 600 while driving to his place

Mike, sorry to hear about your mother. My condolences to you and the rest of the family.
Good to hear about the footage. Gil does not read this board, that I am aware of. I will pass along what you said the next time I talk to him.
