Opel GT on display for NAPA auto parts

Okay, not really national news, but the Napa Auto Parts store here locally has extended their showroom, and will have shop equipment, tool boxes, and a 4 post lift. They are looking for a car to display and found that not many cars can fit through the doors. Being a regular there, they remebered I fooled with the Opels. So long story short, my Blue GT will be on display there until summer. Which works for me as this is basically free climate controlled storage for the car, and a little conversation piece there will not hurt either. After they get the car set up, I will send some pictures. I still have the Kadett as backup, but I tend to show it and may in the spring or early summer. So I was glad they wanted the sportier GT

Way to go! I don't know what many Detroit metal wrench turners will make of your ride but it will surely attract some interest and maybe a convert or two.

Wow that's great news! Congrats! Too bad you couldn't stay there just to see everyone's reaction..

I can't even imagine how many times it's going to be called a corvette in the 4-5 months on Display.

Condition of GT

I'm actually not too worried if it does get a scratch or a scuff. My little Blue GT unfortunetly is about at the end of its rope (In my eyes) It really needs to be gone through and really dressed up. Don't get me wrong, it looks good, but the details just are not there anymore. It will get a restoration down the road, in fact this may be its last show year for a while. Its always looked good and made it by in the shows, and never has really let me down. Always been able to get it started, not that it ran that well, but its a good little car. I hope the reaction is mixed at the Napa store...it means the display caught notice

It would make and interesting study to have someone notate how many times people guess the wrong name of the car. Congrats Keith, and ask them if you can put some info in/with the car, so that if someone, with and Opel, is not online, can be directed here. If they need restoration services, you can direct them to your place :-)

Or "Who makes the Opel?" Though one of the auto stores (Autozone, I think) does only list the Opel under Buick. I agree about placing a placard on the display describing the Opel GT... (i.e. production dates/numbers, specs, original pricing etc.) Something you may already have for your car shows?
Maybe even the Opelgt.com web address for those who want to read/learn more about them.

Meeting with owner

I met with the owner and it looks like he does want to use it for the display. They are working on it right now and it will start middle of Feb. I took it down there to show him, as he had only seen the White Kadett. They are waiting on a smaller sissor lift for the display, as the one they got was way too big

Opel at display

Here are the pics of the car in the showroom. It was a little troublesome getting the car on the lift, actually even through the doors, but it is now in its new temporary home

Opel display

Your car looks great as the centerpiece of the display.
Do you happen to have any info on the hoist that is being used to hold up your car?

That's a sharp looking GT, and fits very well in that display. Coming from a marketing background, whoever was in charge of that display deserves a raise.

Also, I must say that really enjoyed the hose reel on the wall of your shop (the rim that looks like it was band-sawed in half).

Looks like it's the right blue to match the NAPA blue.

Great looking car. Congratulations! Looks like a real "neck-breaker". And seems it's a fabulous match for their products.

Last Summer I went to a local Autoparts store, probably Autozone and they were still insisting that they were made in Mexico. It comes up on the "Great Computer" that way.

Gt looks great Keith...but if ya knew someone in the sign business that could make a small sign with your logo and business on a sign that could stand near the car that would be better...more free advertising for you and your restoration biz...just a thought....

Great GT!

That’s so great, you know I think it would be so weird to be walking down the street some where and all of the sudden looking in the window of some auto parts store I see
an Opel GT in perfect shape, I would have to shake my head and wonder “am I in the
70’s again?” I love your car. Thanks for sharing.

It has been great having the car there, been 1 year now and yeah I cannot drive it any, didn't drive it much anyways. I look at it like this, not only is it free climate controlled storage where it is kept clean and all, but it is like taking the car to a car show every day. I like this car because Idon't mind people touching it, and admiring it. Sit in it if they like, I don't mind. It allows people that have not heard or seen of one to enjoy it and learn about Opels
