Opel Racing Book from Petrolpics

Those of you that subscribe to the "The Blitz" probably noticed the reference on the back page to a new book coming out entitled "Opel GT Motorsport" from Petrolpics. I looked into placing a pre-order but have an issue with shipping expense. The book is 44.86 Euro and another 32.00 Euro is added for shipping to the USA. With exchange rates what they are, that comes to $120.73. The shipping cost is what is holding me back. So, I'm posting here to see if any of our European members have ideas on a cheaper method of getting the book to the USA (and that they would be willing to help out with ). Then again, maybe that is a reasonable shipping expense on a book - opinions welcome...

Thanks,

Matt

It looks like the book will be released this at the end of this summer according to the petrolpics shop page. I think I will talk to my local library.

I haven't heard of a book that expensive since I was in the Navy, when an Ingersol-Rand High Pressure Air Compressor Tech Manual cost over a thousand dollars...

No Opels were harmed in the filming of this movie.
However two Mustangs, a Pinto, and a Capri were hospitalized.
One Mustang was euthanized the next morning.

The book is extremely limited production, so don't hold your breath and expect it to be readily available in the US through normal channels.

Give OGTS a call, I pre-ordered my copy 2 months ago from Gil...

IDK - I had college textbooks in the '80s that cost that much and they switched the required version every year to eliminate the resale market...

What was your total cost with shipping?

It was suggested to me via PM that if we do a group buy we could get the shipping down. I tested this theory by trial ordering 5 copies direct from Petrolpics.com. The shipping went from 32 Euro for one copy to 52 Euro for 5 copies so it does indeed save on shipping to bundle our orders. Of course, the person handling the "group buy" has to separate the order out and ship to the individual recipients...

I didn't ask as I simply wanted the book.

I just asked Gil if he was getting any in...he said 'yes', so I said 'save me one'! I suspect he has far greater purchasing power than any one of us ever will, so I think the shipping will be spread out over many items, not one or two.

I'd just give him a hollar and ask. Exchange rates can alter the final price of course, but he's usually very good at maintaining his prices as long as he doesn't lose his shirt.

Exclamation Mehrwertsteuer (VAT) and "book" shipping

Price of book includes Mehrwertsteuer (7% VAT, value added tax), which is not applicable to items shipped outside Germany.

As far as shipping goes, I bought a "sprint" manual in Germany last year and had it sent by Deutsche Post at a special, registered (Einschreiben) book rate of 10.50€, at least that's what it was on June 8, 2007 when a bookshop there sent it to me directly. I cannot believe that this bookshop is not aware of this!

Subtracting the 7% VAT drops the price to just under 45 Euro. That combined with a more reasonable shipping charge would certainly help!

Hi Guys,

We and the authors just watched your discussion about the new GT book and are of course glad that there is a large interest aborad.

Currently we are negotiating with a distributor in the US to get a large number of books to North America so you can order the books with fair shipping costs.

We know that it´s pretty expensive to ship the books from Europe to the States and we´d also like to make it cheaper but DHL does not offer any other way to get them quickly and insured over to you.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Best wishes
Robert
