Does this mean the 8 speed is not going into the car?

We do have an 8 speed trans in our Conrero Prototype and we have another 8 speed for the Gull Wing. We can always change our minds and just stuff a 5 speed but with the Gull Wing we are making another fun specialty out of reach car, which has been a long time in the coming so we might as well use the 8 speed.

Could you post the gearing with the eight speed?

Most of the time it's a close ratio in the lower gears with overdrive in the last few.

I don't remember everything about it but I think the final drive ratio is .78 If I remember right the final drive ratio for 5 speed is .87 This is not a close ratio ZF model but rather a stock Opel part from back in the day. Like we said before, they are rare. We really can't remember anything else about it at this time except we have saved it forever to stuff it in the GullWing GT. When I talk to Klaus next I will be sure and ask him what it came from. It will most likely be included in a upcoming report about what we finally decide to install in the GullWing GT. There are a lot of big motors around the shop so we are still deciding. Probably a complete 2.4 liter injected just changing the intake and exhaust manifold from the 2.2 series. It depends if the factory 2.4 will fit under our new Corvette L-88 one piece design. We can't wait to show you all this car once it is completed.

The Getrag 240 5-speeds were typically fitted with a .805 5th gear ratio.

The 4-speeds + overdrive units I've seen were from Opel Rekords (probably 2.0 engines).

The Opel Overdrive was available in the Rekord E and Commodore C, starting in fall of 1980. These gear boxes were regular 4-speeds, with the addition of another small gear box added between the 4-speed and the drive shaft output. The overdrive was actuated by an electromagnetic coil, with a switch on the steering column. The overdrive could only be activated in 4th gear, effectively adding a fifth one. If somebody is calling it an 8-speed (or 10-speed if you count in two reverse gears), he either doesn't know about the function of the gear box, or is exaggerating. If you override the safety switch to lock the overdrive in the "Off" position in anything but the 4th gear, the higher torque would destroy the overdrive gears within just a few hundred miles.

Weekly Wrap Up Sunday March 8, 2015

Weekly Wrap Up Sunday March 8, 2015. Hey Folks, what a great week here at Opels Unlimited. Most of the 40 hours plus went into the President Johnny Roberson's Evolution One which finally hit the streets as a running driving car this week.

Another half a dozen new items were added to our soon to be 96 new products list. Our bigger better design big bore Master Cylinder is now in stock and available to the public. Everyone is really going to love this part. Also our new better quality bushings and ball joints have all come in as well. We will be featuring these in picture articles throughout the next couple of weeks.

Higher quality, more durable and now for an un heard of super low price - the entire front end for Opel GT and Kadett owners, is now in stock with huge quantities, getting ready for our next big sale.

So many new heavy duty products at the best prices to date. The rubber sale is going so well we just received another big German order, really big and heavy, which restocked most of what you guys have been buying out there on a regular basis. Even another huge roll of that Opel GT Door Rubber we have been selling for just $14.95 came in as well.

Even with so many orders we have managed to keep up with the demand and everyone has received all their on sale rubber parts to date. The only exception to that rule is the Opel GT Underhood Rubber that us folks here at OU are redesigning so it works better. Much better than the ones sold in the past. We are really sticking to our new motto here -
    "Better Research
    Better Products
    Better Prices"
We hope to have all of our new prototyping finished and another huge roll made by the end of the week.

More new products and updates developed by the folks here at OU will be coming soon. They include body panels, lights and lenses and the remaining few items left that are specialty parts made from rubber. There are very few remaining that we don't have a massive stock pile of currently. It looks like almost all of our newest aspirations and dream parts will be ready to show off at all the upcoming shows and events this Summer.

We hope you all have been enjoying our new announcements and sales throughout this year. Like we have said before, we are the number one Opel company to watch in 2015.

Weekly Wrap Up Sunday March 15, 2015 One of the Best Ever

Weekly Wrap Up Sunday March 15, 2015 One of the Best Ever Hey Folks, thisi s one of the best Sunday wrap ups ever because the President of the Opel Enthusiast Club, Johnny Roberson, came with a big chunk of his family to see him drive the Evolution Oneon Saturday for the first time. Everyone in the OU crew, both past and present, were talked about, so many people it took to make this one of a kind car in America for the OEC President.

The greatest part is that the whole car worked perfectly and Johnny's first test drive was flawless. The car was tuned so well it started in just a second, over and over again. So much effort by everyone to get it ready just one week before his 74th birthday. That was the big goal and ofcourse to have it ready for the International June Opel Festival and Picnic in Perris on June 13, 2015 is still on everyone's mind.

This was definitely the biggest highlight this Saturday. Which just cannot be topped in any way. Actually 18 people in all were present throughout the day and night as this last Saturday rolled on. Earlier in the day Greg and his wife made their last payment on a 67 Kadett Shark fin Rallye that Opels Unlimited had been saving for them. With just $500 down with payments allowed to just $1500 total, cars were moved, tires were changed and this little baby made it into it's new owners hands.

Saving Opel cars and getting them in to new Opel Owner's hands is also another stellar moment for the OU crew. That moment when you actually make someone's dream come true and they get their dream car, is a great moment to live in, and one of the many big reasons that after 32 years, working at Opels Unlimited still doesn't seem like work. If you enjoy what you do in this way, there is no greater reward.

After the Kadett was picked up another dream was fulfilled for Rodney and Bill who went ahead and purchased outright an original orange GT automatic that was saved in WA the year prior, from the original owner and his collection, donated to the OU crew. The original owner wanted to be notified when the car was sold so he would know the new owner and be assured that his car would have a new life. We made sure the new owners knew how to reach the original owner. So there we are, another car saved, also, with their dream gem intact, they left it in our care and told us to add new factory air conditioning, and upgrade all the mechanicals, as well as all of our new brake upgrades.

Oh the work just never ends here, but all along everyone taking pictures, we all had so much fun. Saturdays are always like that here now that the new Riverside Museum site has been up and running for over a year now.

Just as the place was wrapping up and lights shutting down, and our people going home, a last customer request came in so the lights went back on for another hour. After lots of tech advice, some ignition and electrical components, and a few other special items for a regular Manta owner, that was the end of the night. And with a big sigh of relief and so much end of the night happy wrap up needing to be done, a visit to Red Lobster was in order for Todd and Debbie to wind down the Opel stories that night. One of the best Saturdays to date in the new museum, hands down. Nothing beats the OEC President's car finally being finished.

Weekly Wrap Up Sunday March 22, 2015

Weekly Wrap Up Sunday March 22, 2015. The highlight of this week was the rescuing of an early Kadett Fastback from the Lancaster Desert in California. We took a four person crew, Todd drove for many hours and met a charming eccentric man named Ralph who had this Kadett Fastback out in the middle of his five acre spread.

We got a grand tour of his real Ghost town and changed four tires and loaded the treasure up onto our car trailer. We drove to a great Buffet, chowed down and then went to visit a friend at a little pub where he was doing a Karaoke show. By the time it was all said and done, we had spent the whole day with friends and got the car and had quite an adventure.

Further updates on our newest productions the Heavy duty High End Lower Ball Joints are in stock and being tested and are ready for sale along with the newest Carpet Kit Production. 2 different kits available. The best carpet kits available to the US to date. Plenty of comparison pictures available and now even a newer lower priced Carpet Kit offered for the first time, just $199. Call for details, we are super proud of all of our new interior productions, don't be afraid to ask. 909-355-OPEL(6735).

Our new Sales Flyer has been completed and is on it's way to the printer just in time for Spring.

Fully mobile, rollable, engine test stand. Opels Unlimited has three motors to get going and tested and shipped within the next couple of weeks and the upgraded Hillbilly Dyno arrived just in time. Complete wiring harness with full featured gauge set up now installed with fully adjustable radiator mounts for all models.

So many new improvements, so many thanks to our head mechanic Mike Birdsell and yes folks this new feature will be added to the International Opel Festival and Picnic on Saturday June 13, 2015, with a fully functional engine to play with for everyone at the event.

It was nice to get back to work this Saturday. We were on our feet for 12 hours straight and had 10 customers throughout the day. Todd and Debbie did a great job running it on their own. With Mike's GT engine down he decided to stay home and work on the Hillbilly Dyno and have it finished early for the event.

Even Bob Legere would appreciate this new addition to the daily life of the Riverside Opel museum.

We are so proud of the current Board of Directors for the Opel Enthusiast Club and those who are currently contributing in any way they can to help create the newest upcoming Opel Festival and Picnic. Your efforts will not go unnoticed by the Opel community. And there will be so much excitement and Opel love in the air throughout the event. Call for details 562-690-1051.

The largest sales display in history will be featured that day exclusively for the event, run by Tammy while Woody does the KJ/DJ and announcements. Todd will be MCing the event. Deb will be handing out the contest ballots and final prizes and totaling all your votes and ballots. There is so much more going on. Please let us know if you would like to volunteer or contribute in any way.

Hope you all have enjoyed our latest 12 page sales flyer which went via snail mail as well our email database people, which has doubled in size in just the last two months alone. The OU crew loves to put out crazy sales and announcements as we are currently rounding almost 85 new parts manufactured or researched new additions to our inventory and ability to offer new products to the United States market for the first time.

Weekly Wrap Up Tuesday April 14, 2015

Weekly Wrap Up Tuesday April 14, 2015

Hey Folks, our old fashioned Hillbilly Dyno finally took a professional turn thanks to our head mechanic Mike Birdsell. This week he presented us with a really compact, all steel, portable, rollable, professional engine test stand. This time it includes a safety bellhousing and real time complete rubber motor and trans mount set up, completely wired up with temperature gauge, alternator, charging amp meter, a nice fat 7 grand tach o meter, everything with quick and instant hook up. Permanently installed for everyone's enjoyment.

This Hillbilly Dyno apparatus will be on display with a complete running engine set up courtesy of Opels Unlimited for the International Opel Meet and Picnic Festival Saturday June 13. Everyone will be able to play with it in person. Ofcourse this will also be featured from now on at Opels Unlimited's Riverside Car Museum and ofcourse will be used for all the customers custom engine projects and full testing before the engines are shipped out from now on.

Already a tradition here at Opels Unlimited it's just a $200 total cost to any customer to have his or her engine completely tested out including valve adjustment, all tuning and timing, oil pressure check out as well as isky cam installation, complete break in procedure and even final valve adjustments. Everyone loves this so much, you all know we finished our last custom built motor just a couple weeks back and now already we have orders and requests to do 3 more engines in a row.

With the current demand of so many custom built engines made by Opels Unlimited in just a years time, all of the workers and crew here will be so thankful to have this really well built huge timesaving device literally rolling around the shop. Not just the new motors but even the $500 complete good used motors can now be thoroughly adjusted and completely tested out with ease prior to shipment.

You all saw our huge oil pressure gauge last month. Now including a real time temperature gauge as well, the time saving ability is really incredible for us. Also imagine this, every time we are doing a motor for somebody we are also thoroughly testing out pressure checked good used radiators for $85, great working alternators for $45, voltage regulators for just $20 and even starters with solinoids for just $45.

Every time with every test and everything sold with a year guarantee. Even Weber Carbs pretested with jets and Venturi kits, anything is possible. Quicker and more efficiently than before.

As far as our 96 new products being developed in the last 7 months, we have topped and rounded well over 80 with another 20 new specialty parts either custom created or offered for the first time to everyone here in the US on a regular basis. We know you are all following us, always on paper and now even on emails. We are listening.

One of the biggest requests in the last three months have been pictures of our newest creations that no one has ever seen before or for that matter a real good look at all of our claims for providing a far superior product that you all haven't seen before in person yet.

The Summer shows are coming boom boom boom every month starting very soon. We will do our best to show you all what's going on then, ofcourse in the meantime there is no reason we can't start showing you our superior products at lower prices, on a weekly basis. We will start posting pictures each weekend on our weekly wrap up with a brief explanation as to why our new products are better for everyone. We will just take it one at a time. Case by case. We know you will all have fun with this.

This weeks sneek peek, the ultimate pieces that were added this week that you all don't know about are extra capacity finned aluminum rear end differential covers, very thick very well made, extra cooling capacity. An incredible part just like our newest run of super duty all stainless steel with hardened big diameter extras for both our lower ball joints as well as inner tie rods for Opel GT. Yes folks, heavy duty inner tie rods for half the going rate, in stock now.

Also huge forward movement on all interior pieces, the best ever. We seriously beg you to ask for real pictures and descriptions showing the ultimate quality differences for the first time on all Opel GT Interior products. We are not even kidding here, it's dramatic. Remember, we own and drive these cars too and our current path with GT interior production is off the hook. It's not just the prices, it's the quality, it is something we can really be proud of.

It's big. Currently we have already done two different carpet kits, dash covers, ebrake boots, headliners, door panels and tops, as well as front and rear kick panels. All the ultimate quality and attention to detail and quality of this current German/ American Workmanship is the best we have seen yet in 32 years.

The main thing to remember in this day and age companies and manufacturers have come so far and that is the number one reason we are recreating everything for the Opel GT now. Remember we are the company to watch in 2015, just ask for any direct comparison photos. Call 909-355-OPEL(6735)for any details.

Can't wait to see you all at the International Opel Festival and Picnic on Saturday13, 2015 in Perris, CA.

Weekly Wrap Up Sunday April 19, 2015

Hey Folks here it is a sunburnt Sunday for all of us as we have spent the whole weekend at a super big Car Show and Swap Meet located in Pomona, CA. So many thousands of people and such a big event. We did very well and talked to so many people. It was so much fun for all of us. We did trailer out that nice original paint GT that was given to us with such a blessing from the original owners.

You have all been enjoying the extra parts from our special buy-outs and now the car itself is out there for $4,000 complete with all parts extra needed included. We have already decided that if nobody buys this car, right away, original paint, original owner, original title as well as dealer sticker included, for $4,000 now, our next move is to fix the one fender and door and have it simply fixed and painted re-sale red then it is going right into the Opels Unlimited Museum Showroom for $8,500. A super low miles original car without rust. This is a great find. Someone can get a deposit on this one quick.

European buyers and Opel Nuts have been very impressed with our New Product Developments as well as the selection of great CA rust free cars we have come up with in the last 10 months alone. Almost 40 new cars added to our inventory, one way or another.

A couple more cars are currently heading to Opels Unlimited's Museum Pick-a-Part section. It's official four more cars were just added. First a 69 Kadett 1900 Rallye that has rust but is a nice overall condition, red with black interior. The complete car is now going to the official OU Pick-a-Part for everyone to get.

Also a 67 red Kadett Station Wagon, all good except for some front end body damage. Also two GTs from the official Nor Cal 28 Opel Estate Car Buy Out that happened earlier this year. First a good rust free body on a gold GT 1900 that has been hit in the rear. Secondly another GT, green in color, with complete factory GM A.C. No parts were removed on either car. In fact the GM Air GT even has a chrome luggage rack and other options as it hits the OU yard directly.

Also there is one car left. An original paint 74 Manta in mustard yellow with a good body and a half stripped interior. One small dent in the driver rear corner. Either way, everyone gets a fair chance. You can get the parts you need or you can buy the entire car at a reasonable price to get all the current parts you need.

Also, last but not least, there is still a 74 Wagon with so many good parts still left on board. A factory GM A.C. even with Rallye Gauges. Lots of interior and body left. Front end and engine and trans already gone, already sold, and some other parts now too.

New updates on the parts manufacturing front are the high capacity finned aluminum differential cover as well as new GT inner tie rod ends and lower ball joints, all with high quality major upgrades. GT underhood rubber prototypes are coming to an end which completes every rubber part for an Opel GT, all exclusive from OU.

The last things that came in with a happy place finally are heavy duty upgraded Opel GT Gas Sending Units as well as finally an all steel upgraded Opel GT all metal fuse box.

Another new item currently being made, the Opel GT and Kadett new Center Mufflers. We have had such a run on these over the last couple of years as no one else in America has had this part available. So time after time, including six times of new orders in just the last few weeks, the customer's needs come right away with an entire new stock of mufflers being made right now.

This week was quite some work with complete attention to detail and prototyping our newest stock type, all bolt in, original type muffler.

Other good news is that superior high quality interior products for Opel GT came in as final products from both Europe and America. Now offering two kinds of Carpet Kits, door panels, door panel tops, arm rests, front kick panels as well as rear kick panels, superior dash covers, and even now, at the end of the this week, emergency brake boot covers. Everything at a much higher quality and standards as well as even better prices than ever before.

This is a great weekend wrap up with the International Opel Festival all in everyone's minds, especially for the Opel Enthusiast Club Board of Directors. A huge, we mean really huge, direct import from the manufacturer, all air cleaners, ignition components, carb kits, electronic ignition, caps, wires, all of OU's big sellers in the past, at all the car shows, will now be the lowest it has ever been with no mark up and direct wholesale warehouse pricing structure released directly to the customers for the next 90 days as a special sale.

This is a big step, no way to beat these prices, anywhere. No way, no how. These kinds of things make us so happy as we continue to stock pile all the parts we can from every avenue in Europe to all of our current manufacturing.

There are more upgrades and stories and in stock parts improvements this year than has ever been done before.

i wish you would stop calling your engine test stand a dyno as it is not one and just drives me barmy
    A dyno is

A dynamometer or "dyno" for short, is a device for measuring force, torque, or power. For example, the power produced by an engine, motor or other rotating prime mover can be calculated by simultaneously measuring torque and rotational speed (RPM).
dynamometers are used to provide simulated road loading of either the engine (using an engine dynamometer) or full powertrain (using a chassis dynamometer). In fact, beyond simple power and torque measurements, dynamometers can be used as part of a testbed for a variety of engine development activities, such as the calibration of engine management controllers, detailed investigations into combustion behavior, and tribology. From wikipedia since I know you like long winded posts

It would be fantastic if you actually did have a dyno as you could then post real meaningful details of your engines

Looking forward to seeing those interiors though, nobody seems to do any decent non standard ones at reasonable prices..

Weekly Wrap Up Sunday May 3, 2015

Weekly Wrap Up Sunday May 3, 2015

Just 10 days left before the Carlisle Import Show. Suitcases packed, well let's say, getting packed. Over 120 different items so far. It is unfortunate that some of our new products are too heavy and large, some things are weight and cost prohibitive to bring all the way across the country. You can be sure that big stacks of all our new products will be available to see and purchase at the International Opel Festival and Picnic, in Perris, CA Saturday June 13, 2015.

The Festival will include a "Hillybilly Dyno" which is a trademark for Opels Unlimited for their Engine Test Stand. If everything goes well, with just three weeks left after finishing the Carlisle Import show, there will be a running engine ready to go on our newest apparatus, with Mike there to fire it up and answer all questions and give tech advice about engines. That is the best we can hope for and it will be hard pressed to accomplish this all in time with oh so many things to do to create and pull off the next International yearly event.

We will tell you what, we will try and get some more pictures out here with some good sales prices for everyone on these last few items. It looks like we will have about 150 different items total to bring along to the next upcoming events throughout the nation.

We will try and do the best we can for everyone. We have been ordering all we can from every avenue available all year long and we have a really great inventory to travel the country with this year.

From our proposed goals from the beginning of 2015, the 96 new products we were determined to offer, we are currently at number 85. Definitely not too many left with still the entire year to go.

Right now our newest factory fit exclusive reproduction center muffler is currently being made. In 32 years we have never run out of center mufflers for GT and Kadett Chassis before, be it good used or new in the box, we have never run out. With competitor companies not having this part in stock for years and current sales reaching seven of these parts in just this month alone, we will have a pallet of these parts new, in just a short time.

Other news is our newest exclusive reproduction of tie rods, ball joints, bushings and sports springs is all completed for the GT and Kadett Chassis. The next big item is forged piston sets, highest quality reproductions to date. Great over sizes for the 1900 series engines as well as the 2000 series engine.

Even more gasket reproduction activity. All the transmission sets. So many new gaskets available in bulk now as well. (For instance high quality 2.0 head gaskets and even timing cover sets for just $9.95 each). Lowest prices ever to date, just compare.

At this point, with Opels Unlimited's buying power, and new productions and creations, available on a regular basis now, both National and International worldwide dealer inquiries are now available on all Opel parts from us.

Other good news for our out of country customers is we have started a new program to ship our parts out of country on a regular basis. Each country and each customer will be handled a little different depending on the circumstances.

Although we are not ready to send out a $1,000 plus inventory to someone we don't know and have never met before, we are now currently ready to test the waters with new customers willing to establish a safe relationship we can be comfortable with. We do have International customers already ofcourse but these people have already established a friendly relationship with us and ofcourse mutual admiration and respect goes both ways. Especially year after year.

With so many new International orders, as well as new club members and customers every day, the OU family will step up to handle this as well. Especially now in 2015 we have just so much more to offer.

Weekly Wrap Up Wednesday May 20, 2015

Weekly Wrap Up Wednesday May 20, 2015

Hey folks hope you all enjoyed our pictures from the Carlisle Import Show that Debbie and Todd attended over the last weekend, that is why we did not post on Sunday.

Such a fun and happy time, it was great seeing almost 50 of you at our famous Sales Display and the looks on your faces as we introduced our newest items and our great prices, really made it all worthwhile. It is so hard dragging so many new items across country. We are so sorry we couldn't show you everything all at once, but if you come to the International Opel Meet Picnic and Car Show Saturday June 13th, we promise to have a much bigger, if not massive display with as much as we have to offer currently and ofcourse, all on sale at great prices.

The turn out looks like it is going to be good with lots of people checking in every day. Just like 23 days and counting and we are going to start doing daily updates as all our work progresses for the Opel Meet. Still currently caught up with all shipping and orders, our current focus will be working hard to give you all the best Festival that we can this year.

Hope everyone is enjoying all of our current sales. The response has definitely been tremendous this year. The OEC still has 8 pages of sales and snail mail announcements of the Festival. Just ask for free. Also the email updates list comes out every week now and is growing in size really fast. If you are not on it yet, just contact us by email at opelsunlimited@excite.com or you can always call us at 909-355-OPEL(6735) and we will send you copies right to your door.

Weekly Wrap Up Sunday May 24, 2015

Weekly Wrap Up Sunday May 24, 2015

Well folks most of this week was spent catching up on shipping orders after returning from the Carlisle Import Show Weekend. Another main focus was getting everything together and starting a fun little engine rebuild to play around with on our Hillbilly Dyno apparatus. It's coming together, painted a bright old Chevy V8 Orange against the bright Graber green, this should look just great. The engine is also going to feature Opels Unlimited's fully adjustable positive pressure Oil Pump Kit. It's fun seeing a running engine on display. Talk about some real Tim Allen bench racing here.

Lots more items were moved from the Opel museum both special one shot deals and lots more Sales Stock to boot. Lots of goodies to choose from this year and lots of the best sales we have ever had. So much that it is filling up two rooms in our house already. This time the Display will wrap around a 1931 Buick 2 door coupe.

In some ways it feels like we just did this yesterday and in other ways it has been a long time since we have had a chance to see our friends and catch up on our Opel stories.

We have had such a big year and can't wait to show off all of our new goodies and our big price savings we followed through on all year long. All the Sales end after this Meet with only a remaining hand full of parts heading up to WA state which finally ends one of the greatest year long to Spring Festival Sales we have had so far.

Our goal by the end of the year is 96 new items and after all the Summer fun is over we will create another great sale for you all just in time for Christmas and the end of the year.

That's it for now. We can't wait for this next great party on Saturday June 13th.
