Unanswered: opel in distress
i own a 2000 model opel astra and have run into a problem..... the lever and cable used to open the bonnit are not working..... i have narrowed it down to the fact thar the cable is not releasing the catch under the bonnit.... is there another way to open this without having to sacrafice the entire bonnit??? i have toyed with the idea of trying to cut out the front grill but would like to leave that as a last resort........ |

Welcome, Dave
WE deal with mostly pre 1975 Opels - though I drive a 1991 Senator.
Find another car just like yours - at a car sales perhaps - and have a look how the hood catch works. Then you may see where to reach up from under and operate the catch by hand. Failing that, try asking your local Opel Dealer as it has probably happened a 100 times before. Then there is always the Automobile Association ... if you are a member! Then try brutality .....

Like Jim said , if you can find a another car like yours so you can see how the cable is routed and can reach the cable from under the car you can use a pair of pliers to grab the cable and pull hard and it can open the hood ( this may damage the cable .. but can open the hood ..I have used this method many time on broken hood cables ) . HTH good luck .

'Brute Force'
Brute Force and intelligence is a much better method to use - along with increasing levels of violence - till the job is done!

Wow, Jim I love that. I'll have to share that one at work.
