Unanswered: '78 buick opel gt-4 race car

Dear all

Last sunday, I accidently purchased a '78 buick opel gt-4 race car on ebay for $256. It is in really bad shape, but most pressingly is that it has a bum clutch. I know that it has an Isuzu engine (1.8l sohc, I think) so my question. Will a clutch for a '81 isuzu I-mark fit this engine?

Thanks

Bratspeed

If they have the same motor. Otherwise, look at the Chevette and the Chevy Luv pickup. They all had the same motor 1.8 at one time.
Go to rockauto.com and do a part search for both cars (or all four), if the same part number comes up then you know it's the same.

No problem.

By the way, down in Australia/New Zealand, they were sold as Holden Geminis. They've been made into some pretty hairy road racers down there.

YouTube - Mozz'a Holden Gemini at the MtlLoyd Rally

OzGemini.com :: View topic - Race/Drift gems - post pics - 56K warning

OzGemini.com :: View Forum - Isuzu & Opel Gallery

Hang around the Gemini forums and you'll find all you need to know about building them up. Including V8 and 13B rotary stuff. The old late 70's early 80's roadrace stuff was the coolest in my opinion.

That was an interesting car. I watched it. The DSD Webers were worth it just for what you paid. I thought that it would be cool to make this a true Kadett C, but I'm always thinking anyway.

It was because of the Carbs that I put the bid in.

I spent about half an hour looking over the car on Tuesday night. The body is in bad shape from being parked in the open with no protection for an extended period. Being a race car it has no windows and the NE weather has taken its toll. The floor is rusted through in at least two places with many other rather ugly rust areas. Once I get it home, I will be able to make the "part out or fix" decision.

On the body work, I am originally from Australia and am familiar the Holden Gemini. If the panels, hood trunk lid, doors, fenders etc from the TC or TD Gemini coupe fit(mid to late ’70). if so, I have found all the sheet metal I would need in Oz. Shipping is the problem.

Question; is the sheet metal from the Gemini compatible with the Buick Opel?

Regards

It looks to be the same car, so, I think you should be good to go. But, as you said, shipping is monster. If there's anyway you can do a container with someone or some people, then you could get just about whatever you need in one shipment.

From there huh? Well, I'm preaching to the choir, then!

Dr. Manta in Germany has some nice pics of NOS Kadett C sheetmetal that he sells. Might be able to make some good comparisons.

I can put you in touch with a guy that imports cars/parts from OZ. He buys used parts and loads containers every few months. he also sources stuff and I think if he is willing, you could buy stuff and have it shipped to whatever address he uses down there. I believe he lives in Los Angeles. He has a nice Valiant Charger and a Torana (might be an A9X replica) and a Falcon, I think.

he goes by the screenname OzHemi on this forum:

Mad Max Movies FAQ

Look to the index on the left for the discussion forums and you will usually find him in the Film Cars and Replicas sub-forum.
