Unanswered: Opel rekord 71 Transmisson

Hallo.

Im modifing my rekord, and was thinking about fitting a bench seat [sofa] instead of the front seat, and wanna have the gear changer on the steering wheel instead.

How much work is this, if possible?
the opel combi (same year as my 1971) got it as you can see in this picture: Opel Rekord (1971) - GARAGET - www.garaget.org

grateful for replies.

Jakob

It's not impossible, just a lot of work, one thing is, are you going for an automatic trans or a manual trans? You will need to see if your current trans will accept the linkage from the column shifter. At that point, you may or may not have to get a different trans. Then you will have to get the entire steering column that would have the shifter lever and mechanicals.

It will be a lot of work, if you want to use a manual transmission you are going to have to look for one because the steer shift trans and the floor shift trans are not the same, but with the auto trans I don't know
