On the 1961 Rekord which I had many decades ago as well as the 1962 Rekord which I have now, the chassis number has been on a plate located in front of the radiator, on the side toward the right side front fender. The plate is attached with two screws and so could be easily removed. Bill

The chasis number can be found on the body tag as mentioned above, however the actual spot on the body itself is atop the firewall (engine compartment) on the passenger side just ahead of the weatherstripping. The chasis number was originally electrically inscribed on an unpainted spot, which after all these years often tends to corrode and make the number unreadable. In Germany these numbers had to be restamped in that case.
