Hey guys I'm gonna be up your way this weekend. We're bringing the whole herd up to the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo, for the Northern CA Elkound Specialty and all breed dog show. After getting the dogs ready for the show ring, I don't have anything special going on except wax the motorhome. I wouldn't mind an Opeler or two swing by and break up the monmotony. I found out the GT is by far easier to get ready for a show than the dogs and all that goes with that.

I guess maybe I should have said we're gonna try and be there Thursday afternoon/evening, then leave as soon as we can after ring time Sunday. It's gonna be a fair drive to try and get home as soon as possible on Monday. Normally it's a one day trip, but stopping for the dogs every couple of hours adds some time to the trip. Trying to get on the road today, we gotta give 3 dogs a bath and load the rig yet. Gonna be busy, plus the house is gonna be tented for termites while we're gone. Whew!!

Well we made it to Vallejo and the Solano County Fairgrounds. Some looney toon left the oven door open. MAN, IT WAS HOT. What normally takes me 30-45 minutes to set up the rig for the dogs, took 3 hours. I understand there was some record breaking temps. I got to meet Keith (West Coast GT), he lives in the area. His Very Red GT is just beautiful, even though it does need a front bumper. Oh Yeah, I got to hear the story about the last Nor Cal outing and the tire that fell off. I'll just leave it at that. We had a real nice visit, and I enjoyed talking to him about a variety of things including Opels. Aside from the heat, we did fairly well, Gabriel, our temporary loaner from New York, took his class all four days and went "Best of Bred By Exhibitor" in the Specialty. His owner will have a bunch of ribbons when he goes back home. As we were leaving Vallejo, on the freeway, some fuddy duddy in a blue convertible got in front of us and slowed down. Then my cell phone rang and Keith asked if that was us in the Kountry Star, behind the blue rag top. Talk about coincidence, he just happened to be out and about, on the same freeway, as we were leaving. I didn't get to meet Chris (Opelwasp) he had some family priorities that took precedence, something about taking his kids to the movies.

Ron,
It was good meeting you and your wife. You're good people.
Plus it was interesting getting to meet one of the Opel experts, looking through the Willit? notebook, and hearing what you've got to say on the GTs, the economy, gas prices, illegal aliens, open border, Hilary Clinton, etc.

Yeah, that 101 degree heat was a record breaker for us. To illustrate the change, this morning's hike out on Dillon Point was completely overcast, 63 degrees, and had a strong cold wind off the ocean. This is more typical for us.

Good to meet you. Hope to see you at Opel events, and I hope to meet lots more Opel folks over the years.

Congratulations on the dog show wins.
Keith, West Coast GT

Well, I guess I should clarify a couple of things before someone gets the wrong idea. I'm by no means an expert on the Opels, just a little more than average wrench turner. But thanx for that comment. Margaret is not my wife, but my VERY Significant Other, we've been together about 25 years, so I guess folks do think she is my wife. We both feel comfortable with our arrangement, it works for us. I guess we did discuss quite a gamut when you were visiting, but then having an interest in a lot of areas does make for an invigorating conversation. I really did enjoy it. I've got some plans to make more events, but it's all dependent on the dogs, of course. Like you I hope to meet a lot more Opelers, been lucky so far, I've already met some of the stalwarts from this site and hope to meet more.

My son brought home a '74 Manta a couple of weekends ago. That makes 3 Mantas, and 6 GT's now in the stable. This latest one needs a paint job and new rubber, and a small amount of body work. I have been driving my GT to work as it is about 25% cheaper to drive than my Dakota. Unfortunately the 2-70 A/C does not work too well on the 100+°F days.
