Opel 5 Speed

Anyone looking for a cheap way to have a five speed transmission and does not mind a shifter relocation, then this is the tip for you. Find a 5-speed Borg-Warner from a gasoline driven (not diesel) Chevrolet Chevette or Pontiac T1000. A lot of Chevette racers may have some of these transmissions. The guide pins on the 1.9 block line up perfectly, and 4 of the main bolts line up also. The top two bolts are not perfect. You will have to slot or refigure the holes, to use those bolts. The shifter is about six inches farther back, so if you are real short or do not want to go away from stock look, you will not want to do this. The automatic driveshaft from an Opel GT has the same spline and required length needed for the project. The front spline of the drive shaft will need to be cut a bit to shorten it. The original holes for the auto trans are perfect for the new mount location. Try this for a modification, the trans cost me about $100. Some run less, but with a custom interior and miata seats it works out just right.
