No problem, I just had 13 pages of email to look through.
1/2 is junk mail. By the time I get home there's no telling how much there will be. Moderators, sorry I got it so off topic. Jarrell

What is the list of people for getting bolts?
I am not sure I am on the list or not if so I can get a check in the mail today. I originally said 3 sets but I wasn't sure weather the grade would be good for racing use. thanks Davegt27 |

Dave, the list was reset when the length was a question and a new list started. Keith was talking a couple spare sets so that's an option if your not on the list, Or you could look into who did multiple sets in your area and ask.

New!
I have a couple of sets of these head bolts that I got directly from the UK.
They are NEW high quality bolts that are DIRECT replacements for the six-cylinder Opel Cam-In-Head motors. The big advantage with them is that they have six-point "Torx" heads instead of the original "12-point" so they don't slog out when reused. The slight extra length alsoallows for the use of hardened steel washers under the head ( 7/16" Chevy head bolt washers need just a touch with a die grinder to fit!). Of course you could keep using 30 year old USED bolts.... At GBP14.99 "Buy It Now" plus postage I would think the risk was managable ...... sheeesh!

The head bolts came in from England yesterday, and they look GREAT. They are definitely a bit longer than the original bolts, but I think the idea of a washer will accommodate that. I will try to stop in at my local speciality fastener store this week to see if I can get the correct hardened washers. If so, I will throw them in with the bolts. They also came with a specialized head bolt lubricant. Since there were 20 sets that came in, I should have enough for one package per person (sorry, only one lube pack per person).
Only two orders are missing payments, gtracer and lewdawg (poffenroth, I know where you live!), so I would appreciate payment ASAP. I hope to get the bolts re-packed today and sent out before next weekend. ps: nobody, your PM inbox is full

OK, I picked up the washers last week. They aren't quite the "deluxe" models, as the official "hardened 12 mm" washers were 76 cents each. Which just added too much cost for me to just throw them in. But the fastener store cut me a deal on 7/16" Grade 8 washers, which are just as hard, but not "quite" as thick. And the 7/16" size works perfectly with these bolts. So every bolt I send out will have a Grade 8, kinda' gold-coloured plated washer with it. And you can always still go out and buy your own "hardened" washer, but the only difference is the thickness (these are about 1.7 mm, and the hardened washers are about 2.5 mm).
The orders are almost ready to mail. I packaged up and labelled all the 20-bolt and 14-bolt orders tonight, and I got the 10-bolt orders packaged. Tomorrow night I will finish the labelling, and get them off in the mail. You should start to see them in 9 to 14 days. The really good news is that I have been paid by every member who ordered them except one. Hey, "gtracer", are you still out there? If he doesn't answer by the weekend (I will also send him an e-mail and PM), then there are two sets available. I have a list, in the order in which they were requested. And since the shipping and such went so well, I have asked the vendor to price out another Group Buy of bolts, and a similar number of head gaskets. These appear to be the 12-bolt version, and he still has to confirm for me the cylinder diameter. I'll let you know if this is going to happen.

The Bolts are shipped!
I FINALLY got all the bolts and washers packed up and off in the mail last night. All except Stan's, whose package is in my car and will get posted tonight. Let me know when you get them (e-mail please) so I can see how long "Canada Post Expedited Parcel" takes.
Please also let me know if it is difficult to find a Torx driver for these bolts. I haven't had a chance to go looking yet, but Jim had indicated that he had no problem in New Zealand (maybe a Kiwi Group Buy opportunity!). Also let me know if your have any problems with bolt length and how the washers worked. Dave did the required measurement, but it is still helpful to know if all the CIH blocks have the same threaded hole depth. With luck, I should be assembling my first engine in a month or so, but a "heads up" would be good. And I have to say, this has been a pretty good experience. There were 19 orders in the last poll for 28 sets, and all have paid me (Well, Stan's is "in the mail", but that's close enough) . So when I hear back from the British vendor, I will post another Group Buy for more bolts and also head gaskets. I'll let you all know...

I just wanted to say that a great deal of thanks are in order to Keith for this group buy. Efforts like his and "Nobodys" group buy, take a great deal of time and patience and effort. Thank you Keith, Jarrell

Head Bolts are T-55 Torx
I went down to my favourite weird tool store (Princess Auto, only in Canada), and there on the shelf was the required "bit" for the head bolts. It is a T-55 Torx, and the one I bought was a 3/8" inch drive Lisle #26650, which should be at pretty much ANY auto supply store. HTH

ok I got the same results with a 69, 72 and 74 block and head pairs mixed and matched or back as original using a used already crushed head gasket. Nothing has been decked since I don't go there. Without using the washers they fit every time. I didn't torque them completely but could tell they will be just fine. Thanks Keith
