I need some input I'll probably be getting ready to repaint my car within the next year or so and I have a few ideas on hand and I was just wondering what every one else likes.

The black body with gold flames, fogged with lime green and pink tips would be a head turner! I think you mentioned that combination earlier.

Late model GMHoldens here use a jet black base shot with golden flecks that shades to gold in sunshine and goes jet black in the areas out of direct sunlight - or all over jet black at night. I would guess that is a standard GM colour - it would give a great base for the flames to be painted on!

Mind you the 'graphics' flames on your first two options look good too - but the butterflies might be a bit twee after a while .....

RS: I drove a 1955 Studebaker for years that had the same colour flames you have now on a StarGloss Black base - It always got comments. The 'old' guy I sold it too was made to paint over them, with red paint, by his wife!

I like solid colors, the body lines on GTs are just too purdy in themselves, they don't need enhancement, IMHO.
of course, mine has a stripe......

i just don't like plain colour cars its just to boring for me. ive been in art for over 4 years a learned alot about designs and stuff so i have always enjoyed the detail of objects rather than just solids

I was thinking the same thing... I would like to see a mock up with the flame style you have just coming from the front wheel well, as if the engine was shooting flames out the wheel well. The sharpest paint job with flames that I have seen was on a vette at a car show last year. The base color was a deep metallic candy apple red but the flames were very muted. A beautiful paint job, but very expensive I would imagine as well.

I like the flames on your car as they are, but I understand that you might want to change it if you have the GT repainted. It took me a complete night with heavy drinking in 1984 when I came up with the idea of my GT's paint job. It was all made in Metalflake "Glowble", the stuff where bumper cars and sports boats are painted with.

I like the first picture.
Anything that is different gets my attention. There are far to many cars out there with traditional flames, I like your placement. I'm restoring a 61 GMC stepside for myself right now and I'm struggling with what to do with the paint so it will stand out from the crowd.
For the record tho...... not big on the butterflys...

That must have been some mean stuff you were drinking Dieter! I like the extra lights behind the grill though - pretty cool!

I voted for the first photo but I would eliminate the second "half" of the flames (the ones that start mid-way back). I'm not into flames, but I think if you are going to have them, they should look like they are exiting the engine bay or maybe some recessed side pipes or something. The flames you have in the back look out of place (just my two cents).

I like the flames from the front with less loops or tree branch affect and flowing from the top edge of the wheelwell and behind the wheel back with curves or licks of flames with a little more continuity with the body lines to accent the cars great style and shape.This on top of a solid color or candy pearl would be cool. All this from a guy who generally sticks with original!

Alright, are the butterflies a serious consideration? If you like butterflies and flames, why not have one or more mutant like butterflies with flames coming off their wings? Seriously, I think that would be tweemendous!

I like the Citrus Yellow Color before "You cut and pasted my GT on your poll". That's my GT.

I think that the Black with the Flames like you have look great. ( Maybe just re-paint the car) and go with a yellow interior. Adding all that extra flare just takes away from the body lines of the GT. Theses cars already have style and are head turners, I would search the photo gallery for color idea's. Just my thoughts, Good Luck

Yeah it caught my eye at OMC 2004, there may be some more pics of that car in other OMC picnics I've been to since then, the only time I've seen that car was at OMC functions.

Personally, I like flames on just about anything. If they are tastefully done. The lines on the GT are what catches most peoples eyes (even you,thats why you bought one) so I wouldn't distract from what Opel did too much. Even with a solid LOUD color, the lines of the car is what makes the the paint job "pop". Something like heavy ghost flames around the front of the car and slowly dissipating towards the rear would be subtle enough. Take a look on-line at custom motor-cycle paint jobs....it may give you a few more ideas that you can build off. You can add things into the rolls of the flames to jazz things up a bit. Nothing like looking into a nice paint-job and finding new things every time..... What about a candy red or blue with gray or white ghost flames and rolling smoke running towards the back end? Basically what I'm trying to say is that from 20-30 feet away the car should look like a solid color, but as you get closer you start to see the art work....

I've never been much for old-school flames on cars.

My exception to the rule is the 'newer' technique of 'real flames', which truly looks like the car is on fire. This would look pretty 'hot' on your GT, IMO.

Mike Lavellee is the guy who pioneered this technique. I'm sure it isn't cheap though!

I like the flames and mist on the rear, but I think you should do the rest of the car with the mist as well.
Just my opinion. That and $3 will get you a decent cup of coffee (I don't think Starbucks is that inexpensive).

I would keep the GT "flameless" and just find a nice color and go to town with it.

Flames require lots of preparation which equates to mucho $$$. We add flames to our T's when a customer requests it and it almost doubles the price of the paint work. Now, if you are building a massively modified vehicle, full of chrome and body mods, then I would flame the front ghosting the center towards the rear.

If your GT will be stock per say, then a good paint job will set it apart and make it unique.

The upper photo looks like it has the same flames in two spots. I would remove the back one and lean the flames down and bring them closer to the front. Or even add a few more "whips" and place between the headlights and then down the sides. But, this is only an opinion and you have lots of ideas coming out of the woods. Hey Bob, Those "true fire" flames pictures that you posted I did learn how to do that its taken me about 6 years and I am good at it. but your right its not cheap for me to do a bike, its starts out at $2300, for a car it starts at about $6400

Its a lot of time and patients and skill, and tons of memory due to chemicals but its good money, but you have to find the customers and that is what is most difficult its not the money or getting it, its finding the customers that want the specific things done to there cars that earns you that type of money
