Clock Replacement Options

I've wondered many times what the best (most useful) replacement is for the clock in a GT dash. Even if the clock works, there are better uses for that space I think. Seeing the "combo" oil temperature / volt meter available in the recent OGTS catalog supplement got me thinking about this again. Vote here on what you think the most useful replacement would be and comment if you select "Other" by providing specifics.

nocturnal looks is important too

one thing I might add, It's got to be lighted so that it matches the others at night. I love my opel dash. Do these other options have a matched light provision?
I am currently using electric clock works in the old housing, with light. I might like an instrument there, if it was lighted.

I see a trend developing already... I should add that if you pick the combo unit, it means you think both of these gauges are important enough to warrant the extra effort and expense of installation.

I used the combination oil temp/ volt meter from Opel GT Source for a few years and like it. Looking real close at my GT gauges, the new gauge white lettering is more "white" than the aged OEM gauges. Still like it!

I moved a vacuum gauge in place of my non working clock........ may install another aftermarket clock in the space, and matching vacuum gauge in a pod to the upper left frame above the steering wheel later that looks just like the VDO original with black background, white numbers, and red hands.

Personally, I'd want one of the Quartz Clocks that OGTS used to offer. They can still be made but OGTS will just refer you to the company that used to do them for OGTS. Otherwise, I'm digging the combo unit that OGTS offers.

On the Phoenix, I'm planning to do something different. I'm going to get rid of the three gauges on the right and mount them in an A-pillar pod, but not the original gauges, new aftermarket ones.

I agree! My OGTS quartz clock keep time like... well, clockwork. Whenever we take this GT out of hibernation for a roadtrip, my GF and I are always impressed by how accurate the clock remains.

Coincidentally, I was finally assembling the custom dash for my Spyder last night, and I had to make the same decision as found in this thread. I opted for the OGTS volt/oil temp combo. (I will have to run the sender from the drain plug on a 1.1L.) I really do like how the the three split gauges line up beside each other on the dash panel. Although I know that I will miss having a quartz clock when I'm driving this car cross-country.

As mentioned in my "Off to the Sandblaster" thread, since I put EFI in my car I replaced the clock with a AFR gauge to monitor mixture and avoid an engine melt down. Even without EFI if you get the LC-1 Oxy sensor controller from DIY autotune and put the Bosch Oxy sensor in a carbureted modified engine car you would be able to avoid a melt down similar to the "Disaster" thread that was recently posted here, well worth the money and time to save your engine.

Just to throw in a little food for thought, for those who are not Manta/Ascona owners (just kidding) anyway, the rally gauge cluster for these cars have an amp, clock and oil pressure (l-r) and like the GTs, the clock sometimes works. In my Sportwagon, I swapped out the amp for a volt meter, and the clock got swapped for a vacuum gauge. My clock is from most any digital radio out there now, or my wristwatch, but, having the volt gauge and especially the vacuum gauge has helped a lot.

Interesting question

I think that the Oil temp and anything having to do with oil or temperature is extremely important to a GT owner. You have to watch th vitals on the heart - I think bang for the buck goes to the combo unit.
