Too old? I don't think so!!!
getting a '71 GT roadworthy. Great exercise machine. After climbing under and over and in and out, I have had a thorough workout, especially when the temperatures are in the 90s. Bought it last fall, had fire in the belly about a month ago for the first time in 9 years, but it ran rough and would not idle. Have rebuilt the distributor and am in the the process of rebuilding the Weber 32/36 DGAV with an electric choke. It was a California car, so I am trying to find the appropriate jets for 4500 feet altitude and how to set the idle speed with the electric choke.![]() Denny |

age
Names Nick and i am 23 years old. I purchased a 72 gt last august from a guy in MN who had intentions of ripping everything out and turning it into a drifting car
![]() The car ran nicely but before i got it out to my parents house, the headlites and lower aftermarket crap lites the po installed died, and the alternator was not charging. Almost Nothing was hooked up right, there was a serious fuel smell in the cab, all front and rear lites did not work, and best of all the belly pan area looked like it hit something so fearce that it was basicalley ripped out and bent the metal edges back wards. Since that day my father and I have rewired it correctly(thankfully most of the stuff inside the cab worked), fixed the steering collumn, riveted a nice piece of sheet metal in the belly pan area, made a battery housing, got the all of the lites working(we just need to fix the rear marker lites as the po filled in the old holes and cut out new ones and put some junky old chrysler side markers. ![]() Its still going to take a while but at least i saved a great car from some cruel intentions!! |

I am 26, I got my GT when I graduated highschool. I did get her going and would drive her to the car wash and such but then decided to go to college. So she's been sitting there patiently waiting for me. Well I'll be graduating college in December so maybe here within a couple of months I'll be able to invest some time and money into her!

An update to my story: I am 31 going on 32 in a few months. I am now a Deputy Sheriff. Right now I am working in the jail. Woo whoo. Dirt bags can be fun, not. Oh well, I have to do my time till I can get onto the road. It is a lot of fun though.

I,ve had my Opel GT (a female) for two years, had plans to have it on the road. But something terrible happened, got married....Not too terrible, just my priorities got changed. To all (most) of my stuff comes second. Good thing is, she wants to drive the GT when its road worthy. Or is that a bad thing, my wife has totalled 1.5 of the cars shes owned? Anyway, I'm 38 and she's 37...oh and my beautiful wife is 32, yeah baby.

I just turned 20 here on the 23rd of jan, and i bought my first Oepl GT as my own birthday gift since no one else got me any thing. i originally saw my first Opel on craigs list, It was a bit of a rust bucket. I wanted to go out and get it but i didnt have the money at the time so i waited. About 3 weeks down the road i ran into this one i have now on craigs list. i had gone out about a week in advance and gotten a loan. I had been looking for another car in this time frame and had been him hawing over this style and that style and what not. I had found Penelope on craigs list and i was like i must go and get this car and so i drove the hour and a half to go and get her and bring her home. She so far has diffidently been a pain in my lope
if ya get what i mean. trying to get her home she died on and exit ram and wouldn't start back up (timing was to low and we didn't know how to fix it) but we got her started again and just prayed to hit no stop go traffic. but every thing always fails to work our way and we hit a bit of stop and go. my husband driving the car home tried desperately not to kill the car in this traffic for fear of not being able to get her started again. But we died any ways but we popped the clutch and got her started again . he had to maintain his foot on the clutch and gas and had to use the e brake to stop us. talk about a rough ride home.but we got her home and have been working on her none stop since we got her 5 days ago. She now is starting to get in good condition. all we have to do now is drain the fluids and flush her out and put the new in and drop the exhaust and re do that... Also Add just a lil touch up paint and she will be good as new.... im so excited i just cant wait.... shes just been full of shenanigans for us. but i lover her to death..

Hi all, got my midlife revival(who says it's a crisis) 70 gt delivered on my 42nd birthday a few months back. She's been sitting inside in a garage in CT since 1981 and has her range of problems.Currently sitting in the wifes horse barn. Once the garage is up in the spring I'll be tearing her apart completely and starting over. Bought my first gt when I was 15. I was picking blueberries for a farmer saving money for a car. Farmer told me he had a car for sale. Never heard of an Opel GT before. Saw it parked in the hay field behind his house and fell in love with it, even if the hay was growing inside of it too. Took a year to replace the floors and save enough money to get brakes working on my lucritive dishwasher salary. Bought a second 70 GT two years later. I had to sell them both when I got married the first time( I should have kept the GT's instead!). Been promising myself that I'd get another one someday. I'll be posting pictures and asking questions when I start working on it, Im sure. But for now, just happy researching and reading all of your success stories!

Just an update:
I'm 19, turning 20 in a couple of weeks. I got my first GT, a 1973, when I was 14, and restored it over the following 3 years. I then sold the car, and have picked up many more over time. I have owned a total of 10 GT's, and still have 3 to my name. I am in the process of restoring a 1970 that is practically rust free (besides the belly pan), and plan to have it done within 2 years..depending on income .

yellow manta
Hi, I'm Emilian, 33y old and I have a '77 Manta.
My first and daily driver car is a '81 Renault 12, LPG converted (cheaper to run), inherited from my grandfather. It requiers monthly investments and TLC, but luckily the parts are cheap for it. My second car is a '77 Manta. I started 2 years ago to rebuild it; the body and engine are ready, still some work to do on the interior, dash, upholstery, bushings and brakes. I just love how I feel behind the wheel, it's an excellent car, even for this days.

Just turned 21 on the 25th of May, and as far as Opel's go, my dad's 71' GT was the first "Cool car" I was in as a kid. He traded an old dodge van and a couple hundred bucks for the opel and a whole ton of parts from his friend. It was the very first manual car I ever drove and learned to drive on it
:I'm hoping he won't sell it before I get the money to buy it from him. I've restored 2 cars fully( 79' International Scout II, and a 71' Dodge Challenger R/T) and have done 1 custom car (88' volvo 740 wagon which I put an 88' Mustang 5.0 HO motor in ) And hopefully I can do a full resto on it. Life story summed up
