I'm 21 and just bought my first Opel - a 70 GT. Currently it's getting primer on it, so I don't get to drive it.
![]() I'm jealous of all these people who got theirs in high school... even now I barely have the money for one. (All my funds go to paying for school) ~Jayna |

I'm 21 years old and bought my GT when I was 19.
I'm in love with old cars since I was some 14. I wanted to have a Fiat 500L (those little cute things), but my father found the car to small to drive every day. So I was a little disappointed. But when I almost got my driver's license I saw a beautiful car for sale. It was a yellow GT and I immediatelly knew that I wanted to have such a car. After some searching I found my dreamcar, a Opel GT from 1969. I really enjoy driving it. Nur Fliegen ist Schöner!!!! (is it???)

Hi,I'm 41 and I live in Romania (the country of Dracula -to be more easy to locate). I have 2 Opel Rekord ( 67 & 68) , the 68's was belonging to my father since '69 . From two years ago I took the 68's Rekord from my father (changed with a Renault) and I restaurated all including the engine. At this moment I am in a tuning process for my engine : 1.9-> 2.0 ( 93->95 mm diameter) , side draft Solex C40 ADDHE -2 pieces , K&N bolt-on air filters , OP 244 - KENT CAM ( 290 /11.35 mm) and VS 21 valve springs. All operations was done by my self including hand made inlet manifolds (steel) and hand made exhaust manifolds (iron cast welding similar with J.Lawson).I also made a very good loking heat shield. I participate with my '68 Rekord at classic car rallies . At this moment I'm working with a flywheel in order to reduce the weight .
I want to attach some pictures but I don't know how. (cristian68rekord@yahoo.co.uk) Cristian Last edited by cristian68rekor; 08-04-2004 at 05:50 AM. |

I'm 17 and I bought my first opel gt (1970) from a junk yard for $125.00 about 2 weeks ago. This car has been a failed project to 5 people in this town alone and I'm going to be the one to finish her and take her on her maiden run. can't wait!!! -Scott

Well I'm 21 (I'll be 22 sept. 6th). I bought my first GT from ebay last year, and my second last week. Both are in pretty bad shape with rust and dents. I plan on making both cars straight and road worthy if not anything else, and so far the only things keeping me from doing that is time, money, tools, and my father who I evicted from his junk storage building (aka barn). Also is it just me or does it seem like for every piece that comes off easily there is another piece that makes you want to bring out a torch?

Re: How old are you and tell us a story...
I'm 26 and don't know a dam thing about Opels but want to learn. I just got mine a couple of days ago and I'm trying to get my inspection sticker. My rear parking lights dont work, only when I press the brakes, and my wipers aren't working. If anyone can help Id appreciate it. I'm sure its nothing big, but I want to hit the road already!

Re: How old are you and tell us a story...
Jerms, I'd be for checking the fuses that are just above your left leg when sitting in the driver's position. And for the wipers, double check the foot pump wires on the firewall next to the clutch pedal, all the wires must be hooled up to the pump for the wipers to work. HTH.

Re: How old are you and tell us a story...
If the front parking lights work but the rear don't, you have a wiring problem. Each side of the car is on a seperate circut. The left side parking lights are on one circut and the right are on another circut if I remember correctly.

I am 52 and when I was in high school (67-70) my dream car was a GT. When I got out of college I bought a 71 GT that had hit a tree head on. The long nose saved the engine and all I did was straighten it out enough to drive. Several years later I bought a restored 73 GT and parted out the 71. I still have the 73 in the barn and the engine from the 71. I pushed it out the other day for the first time in 7 years and washed it inside and out. It needs some work but it is all there. Seeing pictures here gets me thinking about a total rebuild.

Notice in the polls age graph that I am in the biggest Opel age group, and next year when I am even older and grayer and stiffer and wiser and in the next age group that I will then be in the SECOND biggest Opel age group.
And still doing things that fifteen year olds are better than me at... dirt bike hill climbing, racing around an oval track, chasing elk up huge mountains, all that crazy stuff.... I'll sleep when I'm DEAD.

one addict
The big 50, been driving a GT since 72 (69)bought my second one(70) in 76 which is still in my possesion but has been modified slightly over the years, but in the stables now are 2 Asconas (74, 75), 7 GTs (2-69 one of which is for parts, 3-70 GTs, two of which are for parts, 2-72 GTs, one of which is for parts) this does not include my original 70 GT (Killer TX GT) and the 70 GT I gave to my nephew Phillip, also throw in a '68 Kadett wagon (parts) and a 72 Ascona wagon (parts), along with shop full of enough parts to build at least 4 to 5 more GTs.
An addiction with not enough time or money to enjoy 200%. |

My Opel
I am 34 and saw my first Opel GT when I was 12. I have always wanted one. I am the proud owner of the only Roadster Opel GT ever made that I know of. I will have this car forever.

I'm 32, live outside of Baton Rouge, LA, & purchased my 1972 GT when I was 15. Bought the car from one of my mentors, a man in Baton Rouge that used to work on my grandmother's Manta on the weekends.
Drove the car though high school and stored it for most of college. About a week after I took it out of storage, it was rear-ended in my parents yard by a rather large tractor. I've worked on it on and (mostly) off again ever since. I'm now married with three yr old twins. They love the GT as much as I do....a quick aside....we bought them matching electric PowerWheels Jeeps for their 3rd BD and stored them in my shop. When I rolled up the big door to the shop to show them, they ran past the Jeeps yelling "Opel. Red Opel. Daddy's Red Opel. Open doors! Open doors!" I'm in the final throws of putting it back together and drive it occasionally. Unfortunately, the front of the car was wrecked a few times before I bought it so the headlight openings have never been quite right and probably never will. As I'm starting to have more time for my cars again, I really hope to start adding some more Opels to my collection. Also own a 65 T-Bird convertible (my DD) and am working on a frame off of a '54 Belair. Also help my father with his recently acquired 1963 Triumph TR-4. |
