Have Opel, Will Travel

old opel car guy
Turn 29 in 2 weeks, had at least one Opel since I was legal to drive at 14 in SD. Have in the past owned 9 Mantas, 6 Kadetts, 4 Asconas, 4 GTs, and a solitary Vauxhall, which is sort-of close.
Currently I own 3 Kadetts and 1 GT, but I'm working on trying to own one more Kadett and a pair of Rekords. |

Opel Addict Since 73

I'm 45. In 1975, I learned to drive in a 69 Kadett wagon. The same year, I fell in love with the Manta and Ascona when they were $4000 a pop. Somehow my father couldn't see the wisdom in co-signing a loan for 4 grand when you could buy a base Pinto for $1995. Oh well. I've lost count of the MANY Opels I've owned through the years. Currently own six...four of which are roadworthy. The last two are parts cars for the goods ones. 2 Mantas, 1 Acsona, 3 Sportwagons. All but one Manta are 1975.

I'm 17 and fixed up '73 GT for my first car. It's a great car to have in your senior year of highschool, just need to stop smoking the tires while leaving the parking lot

I'm 45, and I bought my first Opel GT when I was 19, in first year Engineering to replace a very impractical '61 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite. The second GT came as a parts car, but was upgraded to my wife's DD when I was 23. A Kadett wagon became my daily driver after I graduated at age 25 (long time to finish my degree, too many Opels!). The last Opel, the '75 Ascona SportWagon, came home just before this Christmas. And it and the original GT are enough Opels for now!
Hey Gary Farius, how do I make this thread an official "Poll". I moved it to the Poll heading, but I don't see how to set it up. I even tried to make a new poll, and merge this thread, but the new poll also evaded me. Help!!! |

I guess I'm close to being the senior citizen of this list, 63 last month, but with the mentality of a teen-ager. Had a 71 GT for 3 years after I retired from the USAF, it was #5 in a 10 car on the I-5. While I was recuperating, my Significant Other found the 72 GT I'm putting the V-6/T-5 in. The insurance money from the 71 paid for the 72.

55 - One of the Opel greybeards here. Bought my '69 show car/one time soloII GT back in '77. Now have Opels from 4 decades. '51 Olympia w/41,000 miles, the '69 GT, '72 Manta Rallye, '73 GT w/original paint, '73 GT, '84 Senator CD and a bunch of parts from several stripped GT's. Still searching for a Sportwagon though.
Keith - Polls can only be started in the first post in a thread. |
