First post to the forums btw, looking for some good Manta info and tips as I'm restoring my 73 mentioned in the signature.. It was crashed in 75 (right side), partly repaired and dismantled, never run again until I bought it a couple of months ago, so now I'm trying to get it back on the road :-)

So, would that have been Chris Blust's (aka "opelgt73", an engineering student at Purdue)? He was a regular on this and the classicopels site for some time, then sold his yellow GT. A short time later, he bought a black GT with a yellow and orange stripe, and then I noticed that he had sold it on eBay.
In any event, welcome!

Hey now I'm still a regular on the site!
True I have been through my share of GT's. I tend to buy things in the summer when I have a job, and being a lowly college student I end up selling them in the school year because I run out of money. I still have one GT though, the one in the photo album that I got from Alabama with A/C, doesn’t run or have a nice motor like the one that I sold. I am just saving it for when I get out of college and can afford a compete restoration. Or until I run out of money again and am forced to sell one of my prize possessions. I will be updating my website soon with the pictures of that car.

Oops, SORRY Chris. I thought you were down to your last GT. But I kinda knew you'd be back. Hey, get the darn Engineering degree and start making money in the WINTER! I bought my first GT back when I was in Engineering. Sold my fully restored '61 Bugeye (Austin Healey Sprite) so I could afford 2nd year tuition, and bought the GT as an reliable and affordable Daily Driver that had a heater and roll up windows. FAR cry from my current DD. A '02 Lexus IS300. Life gets better when you work regularly. Or at least you can afford better toys.

I am from Australia and I own a 1972 GT. I guess I am a bit like JimGT from New Zealand, kind of lonely! From my last count there are approximately 7 GTs in Australia. There are probably a few more, but they have not surfaced yet.

Hi,
I'm from the Lake District in the UK (Just south of Scotland) I now own a 1969 Opel GT from California origin and a Manta A with a V6 supercharged engine (with a few other mods). Apparently there are 65 GT in the UK owner club, but have never seen one on the road EVER, They only seem to come out and play at the annual shows.

Hiro from Paris, France.
Hi everybody,
I am from Paris, France, EEC. I collect various Opels from the 70s: Commodore B, Manta B, Kadett C. I used these cars in "race-for-fun" events for the last 10 years, This year I'll be a "Rooky" in the French historic races championship. OK trying to add pics now but no sure it will work... Best regards from Paris, Hiro. |

Well, I really did think I was not from this planet... I'm in a dinky little town in a time warp. It's like living in Mayberry. People kept driving by the house and stopping in the street when we first moved here(and I do mean just stopping... in the middle of the street... some even cut the car off
... and sat there and talked... no one got mad, just cruised around them...). Adairsville (my own little Mayberry) was the first town put on the National Historic Register in it's entirety. It's a really little town. Between Cartersville and Calhoun, it's almost exactly halfway between Atlanta,Georgia and Chattanooga, Tennessee. Neat little place. You ought to see the annual Great Locomotive Chase festival where they have a car show. It's a decent show for this place. Saw an old Mack truck here in the festival parade (lots of antique cars in that) with handcrank windshield wipers, open cab, wooden spoke wheels... too cool. If you ever get the chance check it out. It's in October and I'm sure you can find it on the web or any site about the locomotive chase during the civil war. The General (locomotive in the chase) is in Kennesaw and they would know. Or just give me a yell and I'll get the info to you and/or post it here. Would love to have some Opels here for the show or just to have a good time 'touring'. Plus, you can get all the candy you could possibly use for Halloween during the parade. Just a few 'gimme' motions and the various kids organization floats will pelt you to death. You see, we are the first house they pass - right at the front of the parade. Haven't bought Halloween candy in years. All us Georgians and any nearby or travelling Opelers need to get together sometime! Had no idea there were so many of us so close. Ging |
