Opel Addict Employment Survey

Am just curious what every Opel owner does for gainful employment...legally, of course! Trying to get an idea of who we are and what makes us tick--I am guessing most of us had contact with an Opel years ago and wonder who we have become since that time. Soooo, what do YOU do to support YOUR Opel habit????

I am presently self employed. I do engineering design work, specifically water features, commercial swimming pools and on the other end of the spectrum regarding water - septic system design. I have had my design business since 1991, although I have only gone full time (twice) for about 2 years.

A point I would like to make is that I can do any kind of engineering/design work - I have done just about everything - from public drinking water systems to prototype parts to patent drawings. I would like to let everyone know that I can help if you need any kind of fabrication drawing done that you may want to bring to a local machine shop or if you just want a more professional looking drawing for something your thinking about. All at a opelgt.com discount of course. The summer months are the slowest for me and this year is no exception.

My Opel bug hit when I would walk home from school and pass an Opel GT everyday. Even back then they were rare. I watched this guy over the years rebuild this car, body work, engine and finally paint and then one day - a For Sale sign! Boy, did I want that car, but $2,500 (if I remember correctly) and me being only 12 prevented that from happening! Well, the car was sold and I really did miss seeing that car everyday - now I see another one every day, this time I have keys for it! Thanks, Jim

I am a Software Sales Support Engineer and Technical Trainer. My company sells remote control software (no, not like PCAnywhere, Waaaay more sophisticated than that), Asset management software, classroom monitoring software and helpdesk software. I do sales and write the curriculum for the classes and do the training.

Im also a Certified GoldMine Trainer and Technician and I do GoldMine consulting on the side to feed my habit.

As my signature says, my father bought our 1971 Opel GT in March of 71. I was actually less than 3 years old. We used to have a red VW Bug with the crank sunroof. So weird that I remember detailed things like that from my childhood. Anyway, I grew up with that car, got it when I turned 16. I put lots of hard work into it repainting it, buying the cool aftermarket wheels, Alpine stereo, etc... At 18, I bought the 2.0 conversion from C&R Small cars. at 19 she went into storage. I'm really bad about sentimental things. Meaning, I don't get rid of them. This car is one of those things. Im in the middle of restoring it now and I can't wait till it's done. I will never sell my car.

I'm a senior software engineer at General Dynamics-Advanced Information Systems (hence my signature). I design and build code for all manner of projects, big and small. Fell in love with Opels at 14 when I first got to ride in a GT.

I'm a worker at a distribution warehouse for office products, i.e., copiers and fax machines/systems. We ship everything from the whole unit to the supplies (toner, developer, and paper) as well as all the repair parts. We ship worldwide as well as recieve worldwide (in a whisper- this is how I get 5-spds in cheap! wink, wink, nudge, nudge )

I have been into Opels since the early 70's. I have driven NOTHING but Opels EVERYDAY, to and from work and on trips, so, I'm a CERTIFIED Opel-holic!! And DAMN proud of it!!

Not bored, just sick of the heat. I am utterly useless when the temp is in the mid 90's with 95 percent humidity! I sweat just sitting still, so the thought of getting covered in iron dust (and rusting!) or leaning over a welding table, well, it doesn't thrill me too much! I've spent the past few weeks moving furniture to three difference houses (mom passed away last year and dad just sold her house...within one week's time he closed on his new house so we've been splitting up furniture and whatnot amongst the family)

I'm trying to save my pennies to buy that turbo so I can start producing those CIH turbo manifolds. When I start doing that I'll have to relist my job here as an Opel part supplier I guess...

I am not an engineer, but I do engineering and trouble shooting of oil wells....need to keep our Opels in fuel. Mostly I take people to lunch.....sell products and services to the oil companies.

Wife is a 5th grade teacher so I also feel your pain.

Cv!

Started my working life in the Dairy (Milk) Industry and became a qualified Bacteriologist. After a few years "knocking about" I headed for University but "life was a party" inthe 1970's. Finally took up an Adult Aprenticeship in Fitting, Turning & Machning and qualified as a Metal Pattern Maker in a stainless steel foundry. Later, moved on to the Rubber Industry as a sole charge Shift Engineer and was made redundant after 17 years service.
Moved on to a Tanney for a couple of years in maintenance and was made redundant again.
Now work for a water propulsion jet manufacturer as a shift engineer working CNC lathes from 4.30pm till 1.30am - they pay me HEAPS more than I can earn as a Toolmaker - go figure .........

First saw a picture of a GT in a 1969 Road & Trach magazine advertisement, kept that picture on my walls for thirty years before finding a real GT!

I am presently self employed. I own a wood shop, I specialize in building odd shaped window shutters, I have had my wood shop business since 1995.
Back in 1969 I would walk pass a parked Opel GT own by a military service man in Torrejon de Ardoz, Spain, and I told my self that some day I would own one, in 1978 my wife and I bought one in Madrid same colour a 1970, my 2 nd. one I've got 2 years ago, a "projet car", 2 months ago I picked up another one (yellow 1970) in Portland OR, towed it back to Sacramento, CA and I hope to be able to put it on the road in a few months. My wife and I are very excited about being able to re-create the first car that we owned so many years ago.
