Black is really hard to do, and tough to keep clean. But when done well it is really sharp!

Jeff, I thought you would respond with something like
"Paint? You don't need any stinkin' paint! Just drive around in circles REAL fast until it all rubs off!"

Thank you all that have voted so far! VOTE IF YOU HAVNT!!! I have 42 votes total so far.
I aprreciate the requests on yellow and silver and I have definitly considered those in the past but with two other yellow opels within 10 miles of me I definitly didnt want to do that. Silver, just (to me) doesnt give off the chick magnet look. Haha, you all know I am a younger Guy (18) and that has to be a factor with your car! lol. Thanks for voting guys and keep it up! Spencer |

Blauwmarc,
Did you recently paint your car? In your photo album, there are some pictures that look a darker, deeper shade of blue than the others. I like the darker metalic blue, allot! Is it close to the stock blue? or darker?

if you are looking to metalic see if you can find a chip for rover night fire red (must be sprayed over a dark red primer ) both are uk colours but worth the search and dont forget that all the bright motorcycle colours are usable on cars too

paint choice
73 Opelman, Silver with a lot of metalic in it is very classy, and looks good with chrome. As far a chick magnets, trim it in green about 3X6 and with dead president's pictures on it and you would be surprised how effective it is
Seriously, high metalic silver with metalic black stripes makes a very nice combination and makes a GT stand out in a sea of cars.

I was thinking your goal of 100 votes was optimistic, but it looks like you will hit 50 tonight! Good job. Anyone know what the record is for voters in a poll?

Lol asdasc,
Well I know I most likely will not get 100 on this forum but I have friends and family that I have gotten their opinion aswell! So aobut 20 of them plus all the votes on here should give me my answer. what is also amazing is with all these pro's and con's I still cannot decide for myself haha! Spencer |

Blue!
I predict that you will not use either of the two! If you can't decide, you are sold on either. Soon, you will be forced to make a decision, and on the way to the shop you will see some chevy or something with a nice color, and it will hit you like a ton of bricks!
Good luck,

I agree with asdasc completely, if you have to do a poll to pick one then neither is probably the color for you. I think the opel looks hot in red but there are so many red ones(no offense) and black is hot too, but the dirt factor could be a major bummer.
The only stripes i like would be the same as on jj's green/silver gt. Dave was taking his chevelle to get painted and it was going to be one color(can't remember which) till his friend that was doing the painting took him to see a truck in Patriot Blue and that was it, Patriot Blue it was. |

Consider other colors?
Perhaps it IS time to consider other colors?
Green with tan interior is very classy I think (though many people I've talked to HATE that combo...that's OK!). I really like the look of a nice, rich blue GT with white interior - also very classy. Never was much into white GTs, though I understand the appeal of a white GT with red interior. The silver is nice too...and yellow really looks awesome on a GT. All this really simplifies things for you I'm sure! It'll be really interesting to see what you go with at this point. I'm placing my bet on RED. Todd

My favorite color on an opel is definatly yellow, I think it brings out the lines and the curves the most...my favorite shade of yellow is the one that jlthunder has on his gt. Fireglow also looks really great with any color interior.

I too think the opel looks most like i imagine it should look in yellow, it just screams sportscar, more than red does to me and yellow just does something for the body lines. My '72 is in yellow and even with the dings, etc. it just looks awesome with that perky yellow. that said, i dont want a yellow car. But when i started i was sure i wanted a pink car but i just can't picture the gt in pink. i am waiting with bated breath to see vicki's opel in hot pink pearl, I am so thrilled someone is painting one that color, i get to preview it.
Right now I am leaning towards prowler purple, but I have a year to make up my mind. |

Use the color I did. A metallic/pearl blue from a 2004 Nissan 350Z. Its sweet as hell. Almost purple at night, and in the day, a sweet bright blue.

My current GT's original color is Strato Blue. So metallic blue it will be. I might make it a bit darker than the stock color though. Haven't decided on the exact color. I picked a car with that color because I had never seen a Strato Blue one, thought they looked good. The metallic color should create a brighter reflection on certain parts of the curves and that will help emphasize them.
My first two GT's were red. The first one was a bright red like Fireglow. I think that may be the best color for a GT. It is a bright, fast looking, color and that is how a sportscar should be painted. It also shows off the curves well. That is a must with a GT. Why hide the curves? They make the design. They are what 99% of all other car designs are lacking. Red polyurethane paint sould not have fading problem. White on a GT always makes the curves disappear and in photo's they just seem "blank". Black is somewhat similar to me. Even when well done and well polished, it looks good, can show off the curves, but a lot of the car is being hidden in black paint which mostly absorbs light and color, instead of reflecting it. As I've said before, the metallic green headlight covers in GT Jim's avatar look, to me, to be another absolutely perfect color for this car. It's a dark enough color and metallic. I'd like to see more photo's of a car that exact color. Yellow for a GT is o.k. but only if it has a bit of red in it. The stock yellow doesn't look good to me on this car. It is a bit greenish and too "light". The right yellow, to me, would be a darker, richer one like they seem to be putting on some trucks these days. I haven't decided about racing stripes myself. The pattern that looks best would have two white stripes that are as wide as the vents on the nose of the car and each wide stripe would have a narrow white pinstripe along each side (4 total). This would work well on any GT especially a metallic blue one or bright red. I can't decide if racing stripes look "stuck on" or like something "Speed Racer" would have on his horribly animated cartoon car. With a chimpanzee navigator. With your choices: I shall vote for the color red.....and the color shall be red. Black shall be right out. |

There are more pics of the - again - repainted GT in my Gallery. It is a standard GM Holden 2003/4 colour called "Laurel Green" which is a mid-dark green sprayed over gold metallic. In the flesh it is even far more shattering than in the pictures. At night and in shadow it graduates from Green with the Gold base shining through to Dark Green and even Jet Black under street lights. Unbelievable! Am now agonising over the bumpers as chrome looks too gaudy with the colour and GT/J black bumpers are my present obssesion ......... Opelitus RULES!

BDD, you don't have any pictures in your gallery!
![]() I agree, since my car was originally Strato Blue, it will be again someday. I want mine just a shade darker than original though. My first two GT's were red, and I love that color. The one I drive now has been painted 4 times, each a different color. Currently yellow. I actually like the yellow, the more I get used to it. It isn't sticking well, and there is some old body work to be redone and rust to be eliminated. If you look in my gallery, below the left rear bumper looks to be full of bondo. In reality it is clean, rust free, bondo free and solid, but the paint is peeling, leaving behind shades of colors past! GTJim, your car is BEAUTIFUL that color, and so well done! I love it! How have you progressed since then? Is it about back together? Did you paint under the hood and in the engine compartment to match? Personally, I think the chrome bumpers would look awesome on that color. Especially if you have them redone. They can make them look just a touch darker, plus put next to that color, they would reflect a little darker also. Regarding strips, I like them low on the doors!

I ended up having to pay $15,000 in a negotiated settlement. The extra 5K was the motor and finishing money so things slowed down till I could scratch a bit more together. Got most all the bits now and plenty of time once I fix the acursed roller rockers !! The under-hood area is painted the same colour and recieved just about the same level of preparation as the rest of the car!

Yeah, I saw those comments on your pictures and was shocked! I was going to look at what that translated to US$, as you called them NZD. Just did, at todays rates that is still $9200+!
It is worth every penny from the pictures. I can't wait to see it all done.

my $.02 from having 2 newer cars in black.
If you park on the street- Red. If you plan on leaving it in any parking lot for over 2 minutes-Red. as was stated before, black is such a tedious chore to get and keep looking good, It's not worth it for me anymore. This is also why i've decided that any other car i get is going to be gray, except my buick. just another vote for red. |
