Car Color

If you want the police to notice your fast looking car: Red.

I still vote for red.

No Way!

You have done all the work of bringing the car along, why paint it RED? Red is alright, I guess. It will draw an eye (from the cops) and it does look cute . But, BLACK makes a statement. It is extra work keeping it clean, it's worth more. I guess it comes down to what kind of reaction you want from yourself and other people viewing the car. Do you want respect or a grin?

when my gt was red i got no more stops from the police than when it was orange or white
about every hour on a saterday night regular as clockwork in any colour so i would not worry about that

we used to get a docket called an HOR/T1 or horty to produce insurance ,drivers license and car test docs at a police station within 5 days one night i could read "northumbria police " on the edge when they were put in order (these were all from the same cop) it was fun presenting them 1 at a time
the desk sergeant ,by the 35th 1 he got an inspector to come talk with me and after the last 27 i got no more stops

Hey guys well the moment has come to reveal the final color!!!

I have been thinking and thinking and thinking for a few weeks now and I finally got my 100 votes on the red and black issue (Some were from friends) and red with white stripes won this one!

I wish I could say without difficulty it won, but no, I had the hardest time deciding to do that color. You guys decided it would be OH SO FUNNY to put colors like Yellow, Silver, and heavens for bids blue (Boy did that blue stay in my mind) it took even longer to decide on the red.

What was the final deciding factor? you ask. Well this morning I woke up and walked into my garage to stare at the car and When I opened that garage door and saw the back of the opel staring back at me, all I saw was two white stripes going down the center of it with a flaming red everywhere else, RIGHT THEN I knew THAT is the color I am getting.

Now for the hard part...which shade of red????? oh lord here we go!

Thanks for voting and posting
Spencer

I've always like the brighter red colors much like the original "Fireglow" or a "Scarlet Red".

There is also a metallic red with a copper tint (a base coat?) that could look very nice on a car with curves. Something like a metallic red version of GT Jim's metallic green. It might have been a Buick color in the 80's.

I like RED. But I have not seen stripes over the hood I like. Looks funny to me with part of a stripe over part of the bubble.

I would go with what you want and what you think would look good. It should fit your personality and what you like. Just, please, don't go rainbow. Two colors are OK though.

I remember hearing that color choices on cars reflect the attitudes of that person. For instance, people that are environmental advocates tend to have green cars. One color meant, look at me I've made it. One color meant, old money. Anyway, maybe someone knows where to find this interesting survey. I did come up with this by searching what your car color says about you.

For 2005 vehicles, silver accounts for 24.1 percent of sales, according to statistics compiled by Power Information Network, a division of J.D. Power and Associates. The next runner-up: black, with 16.7 percent.
"Silver really shapes cars the best," says Ron Will, manager of product planning and design for Subaru of America, Inc. "With dark colors, it's difficult to see the shape. Whites don't do it. Solids don't do it. You need metallic or pearlescent in a lighter color. That's why I think silver works the best."
It's also practical. Silver, like a lot of lighter colors, hides dirt.
So how long will the consumer love affair with silver cars continue?

BTW, Red at 10.3 percent.

want to be really different? Brown .7 percent.

I used to own a GT that was a light metalic blue with gold stipes that look very nice.

Between Red or Black on a GT? I'll be diplomatic and say Red with Black Stipes. Jerry

I would vote red... that's always been my favorite GT color followed by yellow. Now my dilemma is that I have a red one which I love the color of (as well as a blue one) and when I redo it, I am a nut for taking things back to original, and my red one was originally 1970 Chartreuse (yellowish green). And although I love red, I'm sure original base coat Chartreuse with a clear coat will win out.
Keep us posted on your GT!

DON'T!! Not to an Opel.

Oh, btw, I got my daughter a ride in this and her friends for her 16th birthday. She was really embarrassed when it pulled up in front of her highschool with a big happy birthday sign for her. She had a great time in it though.

Stripes and Colors

Just thought I'd throw up a couple pictures. I voted for black because I think red is a little flashy, and I think black makes a subtler and more classy statement. In response to painting stripes on the bubble in the hood, I love how the center stripe on my car splits the bubble down the center.

The black gives the car a sporty/aggressive under tone while the silver really does accentuate the lines of the car (as many have said). I don't know how other people's colors have played into the "cool" factor (aka chick magnet effect), but I have been been stopped at literally every place I've taken my car for someone to compliment it and talk to me about it.

They are colors I would have probably never chosen, but I think they look fantastic. (Terrible lighting in these pictures, but you get the gist).

I'm kinda late on this but a metallic silver is my favorite. Just sets off the body so well. I'd take red with white stripes over black though. Black is just too serious and somber for a cute little car, I've only ever seen pictures of black ones, never one in person though. I'm not sure on striping either, just tends to distract from the lines IMHO.

Not true. Moving violations in a motor vehicle attract the police. There was a study recently that prooved this. Red, yellow, lime green cars did not get any more tickets than other cars. And actually grey cars got the most.(dirtbags drive primered out cars)

I personally like the orange with custom black stripes concept for my new project. Unless you do really good body work and prep, don't pick black. Darker colors tend to show sloppy pre paint work. Take a while to think about it and your choice should reflect your personality. A tread recently asked other OpeGT members what they thought would be best ...check it out.

http://www.opelgt.com/forums/polls/9...ck+color+paint

Just please, no more paint polls, it took forever to get the to 100.

I think black is too dark and hides the body lines.
I don't like stripes for the same reason, they usually distract from the body lines, although some with racing stripes look pretty good.
Solid lighter colors show off the body best (I think this was stated in the other thread, I agree).
Personally, I like silver, red, various blues, orange.

I'd think black with a red stripe offset to the right (right over the hood hump and roof, rear deck, down the back), maybe a pinstripe either side of it.

I'm in favor of Black and "Hello, Officer" Red......This paint thing IS the hardest choice you will make about your car! Best wishes for you and your ride!
