Unanswered: Opel GT Drag Car Buildup

I don't own this car, but I have friends (Ernie and Matt Lankford) in nearby Nine Mile, Tennessee that are building this wicked Opel GT. My dad (Troy Byrd) and his help (Wally Smith) did the bodywork and paint on this car. I actually stretched the wheel wells on it. (Look for a full how-to on that) The car features a full tube chassis, built by Tim Dixon with a four-link. It uses the stock Opel suspension, but they've adapted coilovers from a first generation Camaro to fit. It's coming together, and I'll have more photos as the car comes together. They plan to have it finished by early October. It will be powered by a twin-turbocharged small block Chevy running strictly on Propane. No gasoline here. It's a wild machine and the Lankfords have a few parts for sale (headlights and glass) so check the for sale section. Here are some pics...

Finished and ready to go home...

Look for a full feature on this car in Super Rod magazine as soon as it's finished. There will also be an extensive how-to on the wheel arch stretch in an upcoming Super Rod. Check back for more photos!

Yep, that's where the exhaust will dump on each side.

Way Cool!!! Just what type of yellow did you use? I'm leaning that way for my primary color and like yours!

I believe the color is from a late model Corvette. I don't remember the actual name of it.

Another V8 GT

Car looks great. If possible, I would be interested in more details from the owner / builder regarding the chassis and suspension build.

I also own a V8 GT which I have been modifying since 1980. I am currently working on a custom front suspension using Mustang II spindles and the original GT crossmember.

Thanks
