Funny thing about that car...it was bought by my friend Gregg for the wheels it had on it, and languished behind Rick's place of work for a while. Gregg didn't want the car as it wasn't deemed 'worth saving', so he gave it to Rick. Glad to see it got a new life as a drag car!

I did sell this Manta to Rick...it is not possible to complete multiple projects. Rick and his Dad did a very respectable job on the car, pulling low 10s, very respectable. This is the same machine shop that builds my motors designed by Bob LeGere. It is a top quality shop.

Thanks for all the kind words.
It was good to meet you Ron and thanks for sending my dad the photos. I hope we didn't come off as rude, I was just trying to get a quick valve adjustment in before they called us back the staging lanes. We made it all the way to the finals this past Sunday but missed the win by just under a 10th of a second. We had a awesome day. Ron, we will be taking the car up to Chevy fest this weekend at NE Dragway (both days) so if your up at the track again look for us and stop by. |

Well i might as well get my post count up so i will post some specs on the manta drag car.
The original unibody for the most part was cut out including the floof pans, firewall, and trunk. The shell was then placed on a full 2 by 3 chassis running Mustang II style front suspension and ladder bar rear suspension. All of the chassis work including welding in the cage was done by Jerry at East Coast Fabrication. We are running a ford 9 inch rear with 5.0:1 gear w/ full spool and 31 spline moser axles. The transmission is a turbo 350 3spd with a trans brake and few extra cluthes where we could fit them. The trans was assembled by a good friend of ours. We are running a 4800 or 5000 stall converter (it was custom made for our setup just forgot what the converter guy told us what he set the stall at) by Edge torque converters. The engine is a 350 small block chevy with 13.8:1 comp. We are running a solid roler cam w/ .645in and .630ex lift and duration of 268in and 274ex at .050. Some decent alum heads and 950 holley on a brodex int manifold. The engine dynoed at around 525hp. I will also like to blame Gregg for leaving the Manta at the shop and for getting me hooked on Opels

Sorry for the delay.
No problem Rick. They were moving the cars through staging quickly, and I realize you were hustling to prepare for the next pass. Hope I didn't slow you down. I can't make it Saturday, but I'll see you Sunday. Can't wait to watch you run again. Best of luck! |
