Unanswered: GT Roll Cage

Im trying to locate a weld-in or bolt-in roll cage for the GT. Ive tried Safety Devices in the UK, but they quoted me upto 1,700 pounds for one !! .

Looking at the availability of parts in the States/Canada, would it be alot cheaper for me to import one?

The car itself will only ever see a track on specific track practice days, and will never require any form of certification as it will not be raced (legally anyway...) therefore if anyone has, or knows of a used cage anywhere for good cheap money, please let me know.

Thanks

G-Spec,
1st (I know it is said a lot) do a search on roll cage. I did and found these treads that may help.

2nd I do not think the market for a bolt in roll cage is very high and therefor actual is in production. I believe you will have to create one yourself.

3rd. Be careful out there... there are some crazy drivers that drive through red lights all the time!!

roll cage

Roll cages for the GT were in production in the 80's. Three manufacturers that I'm sure that they made them are Mattig, Sanders and Wiechers. Mattig doesn't have 'em anymore, I can't find Sanders anymore, but Wiechers (http://www.wiechers-sport.de) still has them in their program. They can deliver for GT, Manta A and Ascona A. The type is like in the pictogram below, and they can make them in a variety of materials (aluminum, steel, stainless) and thicknesses. Prices are from 214 (steel, unpainted) to 470 Euro (polished aluminum).
They actually have sales partners all over the world:

In the US, Kirk Racing Products still makes a GT rollcage kit.

http://www.kirkracing.com/

You may have to 'request' it, as I'm sure it's not a stocking item, but they've got a jig to make one.

Autopower still makes 'em... They're in CA. Last on I got was one of the last one's they'd made for stock. They still have patterns, and will still weld 'em up.

Thumbs up Cage

Just get a copy of national dragster. There are several companies that do cages for the GT.S&W is one that I've used before.

gt cage

I have bought several things from S&W Chassis and they have quality stuff. They are listed on the internet and have an online catalogue. They have six and ten point cages for the Opel GT.

Just keep in mind the drag-race style roll cages will not be legal for road racing. Different specifications altogether!

Not to mention the specs required for a high speed romp across Utah...
Speaking of which, did you see all the Montanans in the latest Hot Rod Magazine? They had fun in Bonneville, again.
