"Sir. I stopped you because you were driving too slow and was blocking the left passing lane."

Police officer bellows "Git your gaw dam car off the furniture."
"But officer my maw won't let me take it out on the open road." replies Aardvaark meekly.

Not much else to do but play with models indoors. Retirement sure sucks

Sounds like my days in Tulsa Oklahoma.
Good Morning Tulsans,... Todays high will be -11 with a wind chill of -17. Says the perky radio host. Ya,... my 71 Kadett did not like -11!!

Back when they were new when I live in Cedar falls, Ia. my '73 Luxus sat out in the street and would eventually start after several attempts even at -20F.
My 1975 Ascona fuelie out in the parking always started first or second try even below -20F. I always switched to 5W30 for winter. Got to love modern 1970's technology.

Yes nice California weather here today. We've abandonded the 30 and 40 degree weather and set a new high yesterday of 66F. Opelwasp and I took his GT for a nice spin at 110mph, and later brainstormed on ideas for rebuilding my motor to a 2.4L.
I think we need more GT's back in California, and to resurrect the ones we have sitting in storage. |

Had an old 55 Chev. during my time in central Illinois.
Had to make sure I was in first gear when I turned it off because the trans oil would get so thick I couldn't move the shifter. It always started though. Was so cold one night the door handle broke off in my hand. Sure don't miss it. |

I installed a capacitive discharge ignition in my '74 Manta when it was just a year old at Penn State. Lived in PA, MD, MA, & NJ and never had problems starting in cold weather. Before that, I lived in N. IL. when it was -20, we did not even attempt to turn and engine without jumper cables. The started much easier with the boost.
Now I hear they close schools when it is that cold. Not back then. Now here in NorCal, I see people in heavy coats when it is 45 out. What wimps. Terry |
