Well, he must have installed roller rockers as that valve cover looks to be one of RallyBob's extended ones.

Audette won an AMT GT model in a raffle during our last meet and "volunteered" me to build it for her.

Have to admit to being a bit anal about building models too. It's ALL in the detail!!!

Buidling models is outright torture.... and I love it! My GT model has been in the queue for quite some time now. Unfortunately, it currently resides behind a half-finished pro-street Nova, a '32 coupe, a 1/12 scale '57 Bel Air, and a USS Enterprise (the Star Trek version). I purposely put the GT at the end of that list so that it would motivate me to finish the others... hasn't quite worked out that way though.

Otto, I'd like to hear more about how you simulated the "seasoning" of the exhaust manifold.

I have over 200 built, mostly cars, some trucks, very few aircraft, and some fantasy (read Star Wars). But have that much and more in unopened kits that I have bought and stored away. I have several resin kits that are to be "customs" when done. I have all scales from 1/16th to 1/32nd, in cars and trucks, and down to 1/72nd scale in some aircraft.

Modeling-I LOVE IT!!!!

Models (non Opel)

I too enjoy building models, but I soon got tired of "Static" models. This is what I have been working on for the last 7 years during the winter evenings. Everything is wired now and a test run along the 2nd level is planned. Jarrell

Through the walls, Jarrell? You and "nobody" ought to get together, seems you two have more than Opels in common.

Lightbulb Exhaust manifold "seasoning" technique

Otto, I'd like to hear more about how you simulated the "seasoning" of the exhaust manifold.
I used a paint application technique called "dry brush" from my art school days. My handle, "tekenaar", is the Dutch word for artist BTW.

First I painted the exhaust manifold with Testors 1180 Steel flat enamel and kept brushing it until tacky to establish grain. When that had dried, I used Testors 1166 Flat Brown and applied it after letting it get tacky on the brush, hence the term "dry brush".

BTW, you DO know that there are 3 different "silver" metallic paints available which are quite distinct when dry, Steel, Aluminum and Silver. I use 2 coats of Silver, liberally applied so that it dries very smoothly, for "chrome" pieces that are not already chromed in a kit, the resonator tips in this kit, for example.

Not to give anything away prematurely, but wait till I show you my spark plug wiring for this 1.9. TOLD you I was an "engine man"!

Based on the scaled size of the exhaust pipe, I'd say that he has already increased it to at LEAST 2 1/2 inch. Maybe 4 inch!

Careful, don't get dirt on your "Factory Service Manual" in the background! Insert tab on brake reservoir into slot next to radiator...wait that looks backwards!
