Op(a)l Roadster(Speedster) 1/10 scale RC car

Probably not the best quality in R/C cars, but hey, it's an Opel. Or rather an Opal. It's not half bad with 7.2V rechargeable and independant suspension. The badge on the grill doesn't look like a Blitz. Maybe that's why they are calling it an Opal. lol. Anyone have some tiny little Blitz's to rebadge it?
Only $30, what the heck. I have one on the way and will post my review of it in 5-7 business days.
Hmm. I wonder if the spare rims off my Maisto will fit on it?

But the VX 220 has the big "V" shaped grill.
Looks to me like the changed the name so they don't have to pay royalties to anyone.
We'll see when it arrives.

Hey yea, for those of us who want to get one our selves, and bring it to the next Texas meet so we can run the country roads with out our wives killing us when we went a 100mph playing follow the leader or catch up with the leader.

The leader should never be the fastest car in the pack.
I don't know if there are more than one frequency on the cars. If not it would get pretty confusing trying to run them together.

George, according to the description of the transmitter, it is not what's pictured, and it appears the color of the car varies as does the frequency. Maybe different colored cars are different frequencies. Also the 100 ft. transmitter range isn't too impressive either. But it may be a blast to play with anyway. 7.2v rechargeable sounds like a Ni-Cad dry cell of the 9 Volt configuration square battery. Hope they send you a charger with it. Semi-proportional steering doesn't sound too good either after looking again. I got an RC play airplane for Xmas with that setup and it was more like the real old RC days of escapement servos, move the stick and you get total travel, release it and you get neutral. Makes for an exiciting flying session, probably the same with the car but only on two axiis. Anyway have fun and let us know how it turns out, it may be worth the cost to play with a running Opel, at least for me.

Yeah, I read somewhere that it had a pistol type grip transmitter, which is not what I saw in the picture. I have another R/C truck that has the pistol grip which I like. It also said it has a 100 foot range but I have taken it farther than that with no problem. I have zero interference out here, so maybe they are talking worst case scenario. I dunno, time will tell.

I palced my order yesterday, they have the pistol grip control and come with a charger for the car , but you have to buy a bunch of AA bateries for the controler to operate (i think it said 8). Will find out in the next week or so went with the standard delivery not worth another $15.00 for 3rd day delivery.

I got my "Auto Roadster" today. No where on the box does it say Opal or Opel.
The only instructions are written on the box and mention a "winch" and being a "4 wheel drive".
The box shows they make an Audi TT convertable, a BMW X5, a Benz SUV, the Speedster, a Subaru WRX, and another one I can't tell what it is. The Subaru actually says "Subaru" on it while the rest are generic.
My remote is the one showed in the ad and it is 49 MHz.
Funny thing, on the box it says "G.T. MODEL"
All and all I am pleased with the appearance of it. The tail lights are the biggest difference I think. Oh and the tires and wheels are way off.
The interior looks surprisingly good though.
It even has little LED's for headlights!
The battery is charging so I will get back on the test drive.
The controller takes one 9V and it is included.
These pictures are as compared to my 1/18 scale Speedster by Maisto.

Well. I'll start out by saying it is like a 1.1 GT. It looks good, , but it's not going to win many races. For $30, though, I say it is great. It has like a turbo. There is a stop on the forward motion but you bump past it and it takes off! If you are in non turbo mode it steers without losing any speed. But when you have it floored and you turn, it slows down to regular speed. Kind of a bummer.
I have a sweet R/C truck that I am getting ready to upgrade the motor on. I am going to see if I can't put the old motor in the Speedster.

Mine just arrived, just put the charger on, so test drive will be around 10:00 tonight. Mine is Red kinda not the best paint job the styrofoam packing scrachted it up a bit. but all in all not to shaby as George said. The front emblem is round with a star shape in it. I think the tail lights might also work I know the head lights do. Test run in 4.

Rodney, what frequency is yours? Just to see if the color variation is the difference.
I couldn't help it, I opened mine up to look inside.
A couple things. The blue wire coming from the battery pack had gotten smashed flat by one of the screws that holds the body on. I cut and soldiered it, just in case. There was a screw missing that holds the circuit board on. It is only held on by one. I just put in a new screw.
Also the rear springs were so stiff, the car bounced a lot. I was going to look at cutting it when I noticed they had put two springs on each side. The springs were pushed together. So I just took one out and it has some travel now.
Only headlights, no tail lights.
The circle for the emblem comes out. Now I have to modify it.

George, the Frequency is 27 mhz. Its neet, has a lot of torque but not a tight enough turning radias. Took some pictures nest to my 1/10 scale Speedster, when I took it off the stand (out of the display box) I noticed that the undersides is almost identical, with battery compartment same size, coilsprings on the rear Speedster same area for motor mounts, so it may be possible to change ever thing over to the Speedster From the Roadster.

Well since we have different freqs, then we can race. But I warn you, I put a differnet motor in mine and it has some wicked top end now. I also made some mods to the steering so that it can turn tighter. I don't like how the steering is either straight or full lock. Three is basically three settings; left, straight, and right. It's fun though. The back is still pretty boucy without those extra springs. But now it is actually riding on the springs, before it was pretty much solid. I think I'm going to do away with the head lights. That just draws mouse power from the motor.
I was looking at different tires at the Hobby store, but they are like $15 for two. A set of tires would cost as much as the car.

Is your other Speedster an R/C also? I see the battery compartment, but no antenna. That's a sharp looking car. Where did you get it?

No its not RC but I think it could be converted. I picked it up several years ago at a Hobby Shop in Springfield, MO. for $60.00 comes with a display case. It's made by Carson ModelSport, it has the same spring set up ect. as the RC car and like I said could be converted over to a RC car, and yes it is the Speedster
