Racer Wife
Yep you got a keeper there, just don't tell her she smells like gear lube
She wants to share your intrest in your hobby. Maybe she can drive it in a powerpuff race and see how much fun your having. I have known two wives that refused to be left out of the racing and both of them wrenched on the car and did a very good job. Don Garlits and Bob Glidden both have wives that would jump on the car and work on it as long or longer than their husbands. Both were very dedicated to making their husbands national champions in their divisions, and both have been married over 40 years so there must be something to it

Right on! My wife will get in the car and pump the brakes for me. And help rub off all those little rubber streaks we get all over the paint. She'll even polish the lexan windshield!
But she refuses to drive the car. Not even on Wednesday when she can have the track to herself for six laps. I don't know about her sometimes. As far as throwing money at the car, well, it's OK kind of, unless I spend more on it than she does on her horses. So I have to keep it under $500 a month. Not a real reasonable budget, by I get by. Ha. It might run once this year, we'll see. A race in July, huh? Maybe I could do that, too! If I can get Tracy to detail the engine compartment

My wife looked at the pictures and just said, "dream on, baby."
I guess the engine bay will remain as is... good thing that area is not for public viewing...

A few of us get keepers. My wife replaced the starter in her Manta when I was out of town once. When we started dating she would help pack grease in wheel bearings by hand, no gloves! It's nice to have a wife who has Opelitus almost as bad as I do.

Really! Wow.
Tracy was the first gal I ever met who, upon discovering I was a mechanic, didn't start the next sentence with "great, my car needs a ..." Previously there had been a lot of backyard tuneups and brake jobs done in exchange for BJs and Hamburger Helper... Uh, are BJs okay language here? Hope so. If not by all means feel free to edit and scream in PM... just part of the fun... this is the racing forum, right?

My wife claims that she is a helper. But recently when it came time to bleed the brakes in her car, she quickly became bored and wanted to leave. After being gently reminded that it was either this or walking (which is a stretch because she has three more cars to pick from), she got back in the car and dutifully pumped that pedal (despite the appearance to the contrary, that is not intended to be rude).
She tries to "help", but most often gets turned away by the smells and gives up. Although I can't complain because the minimum requirements for her next car, as spec'ed by her are manual transmission, big power, crisp handling and light weight. She drove Gregg's Ascona, and I though she was going to hate it because the ride is so harsh, but she loved it! So I guess that means that I can get pretty crazy on the suspension on her next car! A built up Sport Wagon would be perfect, but I need something a little safer and a little more reliable.
