Unanswered: FP Opel GT at VIR Oct 26-28

I'll be at the "Prod Fest" at Virginia International Raceway (VIR), Danville, VA with my "F Production" (FP) Opel GT this weekend. The race is on Sunday Oct 28 -- I will be at the track Friday, Oct 26 for test 'n tune (actually learning my way around the track) and qualifying/practice on Saturday.

All "production" class cars will be racing in the same group (probably 50 cars) ... I've heard there are 3-4 national champion drivers entered. Prather, who won the Runoffs 2006 and 2007 driving a FP Miata will be there. A lot of heavy hitters will be there. I'll be flogging my Opel GT around the track. I have a fresh engine but it's not as strong as the engine it replaced -- some how it lost compression during the rebuild.

If you enjoy racing, you'll see lots of it ... besides the production car race (EP, FP, GP, HP and GTL), all the Improved Touring (IT) classes will be racing Sunday. A challenging race track with a beautiful country setting ... although I was born in Danville and finished high school just a few miles from the track, I've never been to the track (actually, it didn't exist when I lived there). Circle dirt tracks were popular back then and moonshine runners built the fastest race cars .. LOL

Come on out and visit ... I'll be easy to find ... just look for a red Opel GT, number 17 ... bring a through-out bearing, I thought I heard an occasional squeak from mine yesterday.

A month too early...

...I drive through Danville every November at Thanksgiving to visit relatives in Altavista, VA. If the timing was right, I would have loved to be able to stop and check out the race. Oh well, GOOD LUCK!

Ken, If I can get up there Sunday, I'll be up there to watch/cheer you on. We talked a few years ago and my wife was at B.Y too. I'll do my best to hunt you up. You'll like V.I.R. It's a really nice track now. They've done a lot since it re-opened. Take care, Jarrell

GREAT ... Jarrell, I remember our chat, looking forward to meeting you in person. Our race group (SARRC Group 4 Prod Fest) is the first race group on Sunday ... the track goes hot at 0825 hrs ... there are two 15 minute hardship practices followed by a 20 minute qualifying session for group 9 ... then our group, Group 4, which will probably be around 1000hrs. The race is 10 laps (30 minutes) the long course 3.27miles. I'll be in one of the garages when not on the track (won't know which garage until I check in).
The weather is supposed to be 73deg and sunny -- YES

Thanks ... more than one Opel GT in the same race group usually gets a few "wow, look at that" type comments from the track announcers. Chuck (Black Opel GT) and I were in a race at Nelsons this year and at MidOhio last year. Hope you get your car finished this winter ... perhaps we could schedule something at Indy Raceway or the Autobahn -- not St Louis, I don't like half and half ... half high bank oval and half road course through the infield ... I like countryside scenery while racing LOL

Ken...bring your best brake pads...and extras.

I love VIR, it's so far my favorite track. Speeds are very high if you run the full course. I have friends in STI's and EVO's who have hit 165+ there, and there's a slow turn at the end of each long straight.

But you'll love it!
