Tom Drake's Opel GT has consistantly been the fastest GT-4 (and now GT-Lite) Opel out there. I took some pics at his shop last winter.

I race a FP and a GT-L Opel. You can see the pic at anastosmotors album.
Let me know if you have any questions. Pete

I don't think that is possible, in fact I am pretty sure it is impossible. I am in the middle of a GTL/FP convertion of my ITB car, and it is not for the faint of heart or wallet. I am not doing some things that will make me illegal in FP, so I can have options open, the classes are in a state of flux and who knows where things will be by the time I get this thing finished. I fell into some SCCA rule changes once, they screw with the rules again and I will just run the thing in SP or nasa. I ran my ITB Opel GT for two years and it was much more of a...."challange"....then running my Toyota in ITA. RallyBob, I was under the impression that Drake never made the changes he needed to to change his car over from the old GT-4 rules to GTL, I was thinking he was running as a SP car only a few times a year to keep his lic. up. Did he make the change? I hope so, it would be nice to see more out there. I am out for one more season, then I can start on things again, hopefully some Opel racers will make it up to RA this year...sprints and the runoffs at the same track, it might work if it is not too cold at the end of the season. |

I have been talking to the driver of this car an he only plans on racing it a few times at Road America. He said he basically just wants to say I raced at Road America. He also wants to drag race the car also, and his main concern is to drive the car on the street. Well I am always up for a challenge but I keep end up doing this
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Could anyone help me with this and being it has a V6 Turbo takes the car out of GT class. Where will this car fit ?? NASA ??? Do they have anything to offer ??? |

Well I have been talking to the driver an he is not willing to give up the turbo.
So I really dont know where this car will fit. SCCA is out the way I see it. NASA is the only thing I think of right now I am waiting on a return call from them. Anybody have any ideas. |

There is not much in the way of NASA or realy any vintage group where I am at, so I am kind of stuck with SCCA if I want to stay close. I have some time to think on what I am going to do, can't do much of anything for another 18 months. |

Most vintage classes are pretty liberal. If you don't run away from the pack and it looks period correct from the outside, you can usually run it. Webers, period-correct ignition, no fancy electronics. Most don't care what's inside as long as the racing is close.

Look at the Welcome to the Midwestern Council Family of Sports Car Clubs . They have a UR or Un class
for cars they do not meet any spects. Pete

Put a number on the door, hood and rear deck, some racing stickers and your all set!
Much cheaper and he can still drive "Race" it on the road, circle track, roadcourse, drag strip......... Kidding aside, Clubs rent tracks all the time. Just find one and run the Opel a few fun laps at Road America or where ever. Not sure if he will be a racer after 20 laps, but he will be happy. ![]() Lyle Last edited by Tru-Craft; 10-29-2008 at 05:40 PM. Reason: Took out mean stuff! |
