    Broken antenna

My car's PO had a power antenna put in decades ago. It is currently in the down position and staying there since it appears to be busted. He said that the place that put it in cut a hole in the inner fender well to get it in. It is now all nicely covered back up with undercoating that I don't particularly want to rip off. I have to do a bunch of behind the dash work one of these days, new heater blower, some new wiring, get the tape deck out of the dash, etc. Anyway, if I'm all the way in there far enough to pull the heater core/blower assembly, can I get to where the antenna is from that side?

Dan, IIRC, when I put the electrical antenna in Willit? in the original hole up front, I didn't need to drill a hole for the electrical lead, I just ran it alongside the antenna wire through the same hole in the inner fender. It should be accessible through the foot vent in the passenger side kick panel. No need to tear out the heater at all. HTH.

My electric antenna went in the same way as namba's; existing hole for the mounting, the power and coax went through the same hole as the original antenna coax, I even installed a new grommet. So yours should be hopefully installed the same way.

How did you get the motor in? I need to get mine out since it doesn't work. The PO went through the fender well, but I don't really want to hack back through it.

Dan, on my setup, the motor was installed in the rear of the fender well, using the original hole, accessible with the tire removed. It sat behind the tire and used plumber's tape to keep in in place. A really straight forward installation, although the motor did get a lot of debris from the tire, it was a well sealed unit and never gave me any problems. In fact I have the same unit installed in Willit? but now it's mounted behind and to the left of the fuel tank in the rear.

Here is how my antenna was istalled by the PO and I think it is great. It really follows the lines of the car when its up, cause it is in the back out of the way. It is also easier to work on the passanger side of the engine because it is free from obstructions.

My GT has a power antenna that still works (amazingly) except that I have to apply pressure to the in-line fuse to complete the connection (which led me to search for threads on the antenna). I found this thread interesting because for the entire time I've owned the car, I thought the power antenna was a standard feature . I guess I should have known better since the switch is mounted in a funny place and the motor is hardwired so I can put the antenna up and down without a key even being in the ignition. I have no idea where the motor is mounted - it works by magic I think...
