The cancel feature is in the steering column at the base of the steering wheel. Have you replaced your steering wheel recently?
What is the part that stops the turn signals from being activated after you have completed the turn? I need one of these or the one I've got isn't installed right. My turn signals stay on.
What is involved in replacing this part? How should it be properly aligned?
Thanks.

"Yes, I do have a rifle rack in my Sportwagon"
No. I haven't replaced the steering wheel. This is from the previous owner.
Use the search feature on the top- there are a couple of good threads on pulling the steering wheel - that and a good FSM will explain all.![]()

There are some delicate bits under the steering wheel ...
The indicator lever is screwed into a die cast ring which snaps off at the first sign of too much up or down movement - it does the HI-LO dip thing with the headlights. Unscrew it and remove it before messing about getting the wheel off in case you damage it while 'wrestling' with the wheel.
Read the warnings about how fragile the wee thread is that has the nut on it under the horn button - this holds the steering wheel on and MUST NOT have the screw from a wheel puller screwed against it. Use a tube socket or correct sized bush to transfer the force down past the thread on to the shoulder on the shaft.

The cancel mechanism is actuated by two pins that stick out of the bottom of the steering wheel. They will be very obvious once you get the steering wheel off.

Does this mean that either the pins are missing or an arm or actuator that they push against are missing? or would it also mean that a switch or relay are broken? After I turn the signal arm doesn't snap back to neutral and the signal stays on. I have to manually turn it off.
Does one pin cancel the right turn signal and the other pin the left turn signal?
One pin cancels when you turn the wheel right and the other pin cancels when you turn left.

There are also two turn signal dogs made of plastic that are on part of the canceling mechanism on the turn signal switch. Once the wheel is off you should see them on the switch. They are made of white plastic and are pointer shaped. If yours are broken, send me a PM. I think I have some.
