Thread: EGR- Valve

    EGR- Valve

    Hello to everybody,

I have a problem with EGR valve at my Opel Corsa C 1.2(benzine) and I need a documentation(pdf format eventually) about how this valve work. In the present I guess EGR valve is stucked in "open" position because the engine has a lack of power. I didn't check visual the valve, I mean remove it and see inside, because I did some checks before:
-coil resistance has about 9.5 ohms(so it is ok)
    -potentiometer resistance has 3.5Kohms(ok)

So the valve is ok. I measurred the voltage supply at EGR, with connector disconnected and I have only 3.5V instead of 12V(according to the documentation). Where this 12V comes from? This is what I am looking for! It comes from ECU or what?

So this is my problem. If you have some documentation I trully thank you!
    Best regards!

    egr?

If your EGR was stuck open it would have a hard time ideling. Lacking power would probably be your least concern. Just a heads up. I would probably check your fuel pressure.

    Don't believe everything you think.

gtjames, sorry but I don't understand why I should check the fuel pressure. The engine works almost fine, except the lack of power, and the main problem right now is that missing 12V at the connector. I place here a link where you will find what to do before removing and visually inspecting the EGR valve:

    http://www.msi-motor-service.com/xim...047_EN_WEB.pdf

So, EGR valve passed the checks. What is wrong is voltage supply to EGR valve(see the document). My voltmeter shows 3.5V between pin5 and ground instead of 12V. So here I have a problem and what I am searching for is a documentation, a wiring diagram where I could see where that voltage comes from...

Your EGR valve is stuck open because of carbon , this is a common problem . This valve is pulse - modulated to open the valve slowly from full close to full open . I would suggest that you remove the EGR to clean . The signal to the EGR comes from the PCM.HTH

Guyopel, the EGR valve is working like it is stucked open but maybe this is its normal position when that voltage is missing. I don't blame carbon residue so quick because, like I said, I don't have 12V on EGR's coil. What is PCM.HTH?

Open is the not normal position of the EGR . Carbon build up is the most common problem . I would suggest you look
at that first . You are miss diag. the voltage operation of the EGR valve .The PCM is your cars computer .The EGR is not just 12volts on 12volts off. like a simple bulb etc. HTH

It is write that the coil should have 12V all the time at pin 5. What close and open the valve is the potential at pin 1, which is "controlled ground". Here, the ECU put a voltage near the value at pin 5 or not. This is how I understood it works!

I solved my problem putting directly 12V on EGR' s coil. Somehow I guess I forced it to unstuck. Now the engine is "breathing" nice

Try in the future to look for "clean" fuel in the gas stations.
For the EGR the main damage is caused because of this
