Is the triangle indicatorlightpart interchangeable with the round indicatorlightpart?

IDK, Jarrell, I think I read in the last couple of days someone got a 69 instrument panel just to replace the indicator lite panel in their later panel and it wouldn't work. Something like the later model panels are held in with a spring and can be removed without pulling the main panel, but the 69s cannot.

That would have been me. The 69 indicator panel is molded into the instrument panel and not removable like the later yearsOriginally Posted by namba209

I've got one, (69 instrument panel) upstairs in the shed, but really never looked at it closely to be honest to see if they could interchange. I learned some new then today.Jarrell

I am trying to remove my indicator cluster from the front of the panel. Can someone post a photo showing how the cluster is held in by a spring. My panel is a 1971. I tried pushing on the top already by that baby is really held in place.
Rats! I just put the panel in Willit? a couple of days ago or the pic would have been easy to do. The spring is a single mini leaf spring about 4 inches long that sits in a recess at the top of the indicator lite panel and holds the panel down, so the bottom sits in a groove behind the panel. To remove the indicator lite cluster, all you have to do is push up against the spring and pull out the bottom, when it clears the edge of the hole in the instrument panel. HTH

Ron, Thank you for the discription of the indicator light cluster leaf spring. Now I can visualize what is going on to remove the cluster.
Ron,
Success. Cluster popped right out after I pushed up to compress the leaf spring. High beam bulb burned out alright. Checked circuits with VOM to make sure no open circuits on high beam and moved white lense bulb over to blue lense. Dam those are small bulbs. Will try to find replacement bulb at import car service centers or parts store. Thanks again Ron.
No problem, glad to be of assistance. If you can not find the bulbs, OGTS has them in supply. I got replacement bulbs for my instrument panel from them. You're right, they are small little suckers.![]()

I may be mistaken but I think the older VWs used the same bulb- I found mine at a place called Bap-Geon. It is a import part retailer found through out the US.![]()

I changed the ordinary bulbs for LED's.
They're cheap, low in energycosts, and i hope they will last so long that i don't have to replace them anymore.
See attachement.

On the leds, are they 12 volt or did you use a seperate transformer to drop the voltage down. If 12 volt, do you remember where they were purchased or the type? They are a great idea. I'd love to use them on the Gauges and the cluster as they are in need of light. Please share some more info on how you wired them, etc. Thanks, Jarrell

Hey Jarrel.
The LED's are 12 Volts.
I buyed them at a dutch site http://www.leds-buy.nl/index.php?language=en
It is very simple, just remove the ordinary bulbs and change them for LED's.
This is a direct link to dasboardlights http://www.leds-buy.nl/led-carlight-...d-c-67_69.html
The type of LED i use for the indicators is T5
To bad i didn't find replacements for the bulbs in the gauges.

Thank you ZmokE. I noticed the site is closed for a while, but I bookmarked it and will watch it until it opens again. Have you tried them on the gauge lights or the one that lights up the switchs? Thanks again, Jarrell
