    New Opel coming to America

According to the Sunday Detroit Free Press, the newly redesigned 2007 Opel Astra will be coming to the US and badged as the replacement for the current Saturn Ion. The paper said it'd be a 2008 model. Not much else on it.

The Cobalt is another rebadged Opel, and the Malibu is also I believe.

The Cobalt and Malibu are built on what GM considers a global platform, but that usually means the basic chassis and floorpan designs are shared. I doubt you'd find many parts from a Cobalt of Malibu on an Opel. Whereas the Sky and the Opel GT are virtually the same car, mainly just badging differences. It sounded like the Astra would come out in the US as a Saturn basically looking just like the Opel, just badging and a few US regulation differences. That'd be a good thing.

The Caddy Catera was a re-badged Opel. The Cobalt and Malibu are not re-badged Opels.

It's hard to get too excited when GM plays these re-package and / or re-badge games, as they have a track record of screwing up the basic vehicle and then bungling the marketing; ie: 1976-79 "Buick-Opel-Isuzu" (Kadett C), Pontiac Lemans (Kadett E), Cadillac Catera (Opel Omega), etc.

    Opel Classics

Hi - I don't uderstand this website too well yet. I'm new and still trying to find my way around it.

My interest is in old Opel classics before say 1965. I have a 1957 Olympia Rekord saloon and a 1958 Caravan.

I look at this thread and I find modern cars listed.

So where are the classic Opels to be found ? Where to look on this site ? Can anyone help please ?

    Thanks MalcolmL

Sorry, Malcolom - there are only a handful of earlier Opel owners on this site.
Most everyone has Opels between 1967 and 1975.
The rest outside these years are in "Other Models" ... old ones and new ones!

Put "Olympia" or "1957" or "1958" in to the Search Box on the LH Side of the Home Page and every time any of those have been posted will turn up as a result - then just sift through the posts.
