    Rod Ends

    hey, this is a great site with lots of helpful info. I just got my first opel ,1970 GT, my dad brought it back from Arizona. It is in great shape and an easy restoration project. Being a new opeler I'm probably going to have a million questions that I hope you guys can help me with! Please help me I'm only 14! My first problem is that the rod end that connects to the headlight rotating mechanism has broke. Does anyone know where I can get these? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and with winter coming happy couch racing!

    hey welcome to the opel family. This site is the best for finding new opel parts called opelgtsource.com. It will come in handy and if what you are looking for isn't on there the only other option is ebay.

    Good luck

    Joe,
    Are you referring to where the connection is just under the hood opening?

    pick a number

    JD
    pick a number for the part you need only the left head light is shown but if you need the rod for the right side which is shorter but simular just say its for the right side. I have several complete light sets and some not complete.

    Thanks a lot everyone for your help. I really apreciate the picture, it sure helped clarify what I thought I was looking at. It seems what I thought was a rod end is actually a pin from the headlight mechanism that goes through #7 ( the end of the rod).The pin has sheared off flush on both pieces. There was a lot of rust here and it was hard to tell exactly what I was looking at. Can anyone help me with a fix for this? Thanks again for your help.

    Joe;
    If the pin is sheared off, that's on the actual rotator mech itself. You'll have to get one from another car.

    Thinking back on when I did Willit?'s headlight mechanisms, I wonder if it's possible to get a countersunk 10-32 phillips screw in there. Of course you have to countersink the forward side of the arm and use a grade 8 or higher screw. A self-locking nut would insure it doesn't back out and jam. Then again, maybe the right size pin welded back in the arm would work too. Just a thought.

    Here is a picture of the real thing, verify that you a sure the pin is sheared. one has the rod attached the other is not. which one do you need or is it both. Email me for a price rodney(at)opelwrx.com if you need a retractor(s).

    Thanks again everybody. After explaining this to my dad over the phone, he is a long distance truck driver and can not see the posts in front of him, he said that he was already thinking of something along the lines of drilling it out and bolting it together. This would probably be easier than getting one off a donor car. Thanks a lot for the help.
