Thread: Solex missing linkage

  1. #1
Yes, I know, Erick. I did before I started the thread, but most of the results I got was about japanese cars, some motorcycles and even outboard motors. I added Opel to narrow the search, but I still didn`t find any specific info saying something about this carbs fitted an Opel CIH. Also, many of the search results I got were written in languages I didn`t even know existed.
Anyway, I think I will just keep the good old stock Solex, or get another one from somewhere, because the automatic choke, and the throttle linkage connection (have a home made one, not very good) is missing on mine. I got a carb repair kit from Gary I plan to install, but if I can get my hands on one that isn`t missing anything, I prefer using it on that one. If anyone has one to sell, let me know.

. . . if you could post some pictures of your existing linkage from accelerator pedal to the carb, perhaps we could help with missing pieces. BTW, here is what is supposed to be there:

Otto, I actually have all the linkage parts. The parts I am missing is all the parts inside the red rectangle. Now, this is not my carb (my camera has no batteries at the moment), mine do not have the vacuum operated second barrel. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
Hmmm, I think this is the first time you have caught me misspelling.

Primary throttle ball and L-shaped, slotted bracket immediately behind it? . . . or more pieces?

Yes, that`s right. And... I'm also missing all the choke parts.

Puh, I have the house full of 6 year old boys, so I run between the pc and the rest of the house trying to save what`s left of it. Must run again. FUN!

Would you believe, I found an old pic of my carb. This is how it looks like now. The "thing" you can see in front of the pic is a temporary linkage connection I made in a hurry just to be able to drive it. The ball nut is also home made. The function of this "thing" is not good, to say the least.

PM me your mailing address there . . . I'll find out how much to ship you another one. Between the two you should be able to assemble one complete one with some leftover spares . . .

    On the way . . .

. . . OK, one on the way to you, s/b there in 8-10 days. Sent as "Gift/ Cadeau" with $0 value, so you won't have import duties to worry about. Carb was removed from running engine on San Antonio member's GT about 2.5 years ago. Adjust choke and idle and you should be good to go. Better on your car than sitting on my shelf! I'll send shipping details to you via PM. Let me know when it arrives.

    She runs!!!!!

And she runs nicely. I installed the Solex from Otto yesterday, charged the battery over night, and started her up today. It took just a few seconds to get the fuel to the carb, and VROOOOM!!!, she fired right up. What a nice girl. I love her. She hasn`t been running for 3 months now. I won`t be able to drive her for a while yet though, the front suspension is being repainted and is laying around in my garage in pieces. Just as well, snow, ice and SALT is no good.
    Well, thanks again Otto.

The image quality is not the best. Used my phone-camera, and not very good light. Hopefully you`ll see it ok.

Rubber bellows - snorkel to air filter housing?

Second picture doesn't show it . . . so, are you using stock filter housing mounted to fender? I see a fabricated "air hose", but not where it goes . . . nice job though!

Guess original rubber bellows and clamps are gone? Have to look, but might have one somewhere . . .

Yes, Otto. I`m using the stock filter housing mounted to the fender. The fabricated "air hose" was made by me last year as a temporary solution. Tried to make it flexible, but I prefer the original, so I do indeed miss that rubber piece and clamps. Was planning to watch for it on e-bay, but haven`t got one yet. When I got the car, everything was missing. Just had a filter on top of the carb. Well, I know the difference between hot and cold air, so I went for the stock filter housing.
If you have one, I`ll be happy to buy it from you, and that cup of tea would have some company too. Still have my address?
