forums & threads read

I have noticed a few times that when I visit a link from this site, and I spend some time there that the forums & threads are marked read , and the box in the top right hand corner states "You last visited: ... Ago. The bummer of this is that I can not see any more if I have or have not read a thread.
Is there a sort of setting that automaticly sets the whole forum as read after a certain time has passed? If so, is it possible to turn it off?? I believe I am not the only one who sees this as a pita.

The time setting to "mark thread as read" was 30 minutes. I reset the option to not mark a thread as read until the last new thread in that forum is read. I'll leave it that way if it does not cause high server loads. (and slow the site down)

FYI - I don't know if it is related to this change, but now when I log in my "last visit" date/time isn't accurate and so a bunch of threads that I actually already read are marked as unread.

I had to change it back to the "old" setting this morning. The change was putting too high a load on the server.
