Sounds like you have 2 good 4 speeds then. Welcome to the world of Opel 4 speeds BTW. They're a peach.
I've seen up to a 1/4 inch of play at the end and they still worked.
I've started digging into my 1.9 transmission. Found a little over 1/16 inch total up and down play at the end of the spline that goes into the clutch. The spare tranny I have has about 3/32 slop. How much is too much? Do I need to replace the shaft bearings and the end bearings on the shaft, hopefully not.
Also I am planning to use a S-10 clutch. I had the fly wheel blanchard ground flat. Do I use the S-10 throw out bearing? Thanks for your help. Bill

Your wiggle test doesn't really tell you much, the input shaft wiggle you feel is supported by the pilot bearing in the crankshaft when the trans is in the car, remember?
Your throwout bearing question appeared in a similar thread about the S10 clutch just a few days ago, I think the answer then was Yes, but don't quote me on that, I don't use that clutch so I'm not the expert...
The S-10 throwout bearing and the Opel one are interchangable. The S10 has a bump to keep it from spinning on the inner shaft vs the clutch fork and is really a better idea.
