    Kadett A rebuild

I have actually got the cash set aside and have started working (with my 11 year old) at restoring a '64 Kadett. Cruising ebay I've found parts that are a direct fit and some that are near the year. Right now I'm needing front and back wheel cylinders or rebuild kits.

Is there anywhere that I can find out what parts work for what years?

    Thanks, Cor

Cor, check out the left side of the home page under Tech Center look for Parts Interchange. It's a large PDF file that can be downloaded and printed. Also check out Opel GT Source --- Welcome their on-line catalog can give you an idea of what the prices are for whatever you may need. Also they will deliver same day or next and you can be sure of the customer service and the part will fit your Opel. HTH.

    Opel Books

One of the best ways to determine if a part fits your Kadett is the Opel Part Number - especially for NOS parts on EBay that are still in their packets or a part number is quoted by the seller.

To know if these parts fit your Kadett A you need an Opel Parts Book which Lists them. The one you need looks like the picture below and the other pic shows a sample page.

For example you can see under "PUMP, FUEL" that (19) 64-67 Kadetts all use the same fuel pump, Opel Part Number 816021. By looking at the later Opel and GT parts book that same pump is used on all 1.1 litre Kadett motors from (19)64-71 and 1.1 litre GT motors from (19)69-70 so that gives you a wider range of options for a fuel pump.

From time to time these Opel Parts Books turn up on EBay for quite modest sums of money. Infact there are some in the Buy Now Section of EBay now.

Here: eBay Motors: Opel 1966, 1967 & 1967 1/2 Kadett Parts Catalog Manual (item 320087355917 end time Apr-28-07 12:15:12 PDT)

    AND Here: eBay: 1968 1969 1970 1971 1973 OPEL KADETT GT PARTS BOOK 72 (item 6605495409 end time May-09-07 11:47:47 PDT)

And look at this Workshop Manual: eBay Motors: COMPLETE 1962 TO 1970 OPEL KADETT WORKSHOP MANUAL (item 8076143017 end time May-11-07 21:19:08 PDT)

don't use any rebuild kits, [here in Holland I can't get them any more] use new wheel cylinders, saves a lot of time you can spend on some thing els.

    Talking of Which ....

I chased some of those orange lights and housings all over the world - finally found a NOS set that fit my 1967 Kadett "B" Rallye.

While searching I found one NOS, still in its box PN 12 26 355 Kadett "A" 1964-65 Model 31-34 RH Lens Frt Parking Lamp - clear.

It is the same as the small lights just below the headlight in the picture above - if anyone wants it just PM me and we can work out post and price.

The boy (11) will keep me on schedule. He watches for parts coming in and hounds me to help put them on. As much as I love the old car (it was my grandfather's) he may end up loving it more.

Anybody have good tutorial websites for bodywork, especially pitted rust?

The round orange ones blink here - the clear ones below the headlights are just parking lights. Our blinkers MUST be orange by Law.

I thought that the ones under the headlights are originally orange when they came from the factory.

The red one has, if I see correctly, orange ones that do not go aroud the side, and the other one has orange ones that do go around to the side

They were, here in Europe. The parking lights were small 4w bulbs in the headlamp.

take a look at post #12, if your Kadett looks like that it's an A Kadett, if it looks like this:

    Kadett B [borrowed the photo from Norway_Olsen's thread: My 69`Kadett[Project]] it's a B type

Opel Kadett 'B' s are rare. Kadett 'A' s are nearly nonexistant. I looked for 6 years before I got my 'A' last July and in that time only saw one other - and it was in non-restorable condition.

Anyone have a suggestion for a personalized tag for a Kadett 'A'? I don't think they allow 'F ING A' (but I'm still gonna try).

I've always been partial to "1MALIG" . . . Einmalig - "one of a kind" myself, good anywhere but TX, plate's on my 1985 Bitter SC (see my avatar) . . .

That borders on cruel for those of us that are willing to follow a car 30 miles out of the way trying to figure out the tag.

I'll bet the DMV would put the nix on 'A WHOLE'.

I suspect I'll try for 'OKIEWGN' - it has to do with a monthly feature I write.

    If not, perhaps 'THEBIGO' ?

    Most Desirable ....

    1) Kadett "A" 1964 (oops!)
    2) Kadett "B" Rallye 1967

So the Kadett "A" has the 1.0 litre motor and the later Kadett "B" the 1.1 litre motor plus 1.9 litre motors later on. With the 1.5 litre motor in 1968 only.

What about "LIL A" (Little "A") for a number plate

The '66 Kadett is also a "B" model, only the '64-'65 Kadett models, 1.0 engine, single Carter 1-barrel carb, were "A" models . . .
