    Rally Bob exhaust flange?

For give my lack of knowledge (I also did a search for exhaust flange on the site) What is the purpose of this?

eBay Motors: Opel GT exhaust flange for 1.9 engine (item 110116228461 end time Apr-24-07 17:39:22 PDT)

LIFE IS NOT A JOURNEY TO The GRAVE WITH THE INTENTION OF ARRIVING SAFELY IN A PRETTY AND WELL-PRESERVED BODY, BUT RATHER TO SKID IN BROADSIDE, THOROUGHLY USED UP, TOTALLY WORN OUT, AND LOUDLY PROCLAIMING...
    "WOW! WHAT A RIDE!"

You would use this to make an exhaust manifold for your car. That is the exhaust flange that mounts to the head.

If I remember right, That exhaust flange came from a group buy that happened on this site 3 or 4 years ago. Rally Bob put it together for everybody. Don't remember what the cost was. If you want to build a Opel header from scratch, that is what you need.

    BlabberMouths!

Now the price will go through the roof!
Bob made a batch of around 50 and they all disappeared into Opelers sheds - just a very few showed us the results of their header building ... how many more are lurking out there ???
Needed to make a custom header or turbo exhaust manifold from scratch.

You can make one from scratch, using a gasket as a guide, a hole saw and die grinder get the job done. It's a few hours of labor, mine took most of a Sunday afternoon. A pre-fabbed one like Bob was offering is the easy way!

I built 2 or 3 headers for Honda's It is a big help to start with a good head flange. They are easy to get for Honda's. I am sure it saved me 4 or 5 hours labor.

They really are nice. Original price was 45 bucks or so, in bulk. There are pics of them being used in the original prototype for "winter turbo", "sprint Knockoff" and "side draft length" threads. I still have plans for more exhausts using those flanges. Oh and Jim, if you want one just let me know. I'm down to 7 but I can spare one for ya.

What is it worth to know it's perfect and save a day of work and frustration getting it right?

Yes, Dave! I wish I'd known you had 'em all, I'd have talked you out of one!
Oh well. That aspect of the header was the easy part, so far...

Jeff, the header design pictured in the side draft length thread was designed to even be used in your racing class. the collector is above the bottom of the block and forward of the back of it. It also fits a stock intake.

Thanks for the offer, Dave - The postage of all that steel would just about be the price of getting one-off made here! I have a nice NOS (unused!!) Sprint exhaust manifold that will be right for my setup so we can save all that postage. Besides, I have a picture of the flange from the eBay listing now if I ever do want to make one.

Keep it and make some nice Turbo headers.

    Gah!

No one else bid on this poor thing - Dave, you put rats in my brain with your offer of one from your stash .... and at the last minute I could not see this one get no bids at all. So I bid and now it is just about on the way to Kiwiland. Thanks, Jerry.
Now I will have to build a header!

Jim, I'm glad it went to a builder. You'll like it alot and well,... ya know that over and under design for a turbo manifold we were discussing? Hint hint nudge and a wink.
