Don't know what specs you have for the Manta/Ascona driveshaft, Dave, but how about thisfor both driveshafts!
Recently, my struggle to have a driveshaft produced for my Getrag conversion led me down many paths. I currently have a location to have driveshafts with the correct slip yoke created. I presently have the parts to produce a couple of the driveshafts.
I have the correct measurements for the Manta/Ascona, but would need a measurement for the GT, if that's what you want. The cost on the complete item will probably be about $75-100, plus shipping. If I am able to get new OEM u-joints installed front and rear, it will be about $150-175.
Does anyone have any interest in a driveshaft like this?
Thanks,
Dave

Otto,
You got me again! The driveshaft length for my Manta ended up at 28 inches from centerline of bearing cap-to-centerline of bearing cap front-to-rear. I finally got one that works with new u-joints and all. It was so easy to install I thought something was wrong.
Dave
I would be very interested in one with new U-joints.
Needs a 2dr Ascona, everyone else has one.

You DID remember to install the thrust spring inside the front yoke, right?
This is what happens when thrust spring is omitted!![]()
I'd be really careful about posting a price before the first one is finished and all the hidden costs are seen. OGTS has the u joints but did you factor in shipping and any tools needed? Then again lock down a price for machine work. Now calculate the gas mileage to and fro and speculate on the price it will be when things are ready.
How many U joints are available?
Shipping cost for them.
so on and so forth

Looking at the gear spread in that transmission I am glad I went to the trouble I did to install the T-5. That is a real stump puller first gear ratio then drops like a rock to second, nice if you are moving a heavy car but not so nice for using it for "spirited" driving on a winding road. Maybe if other gear choices were available it would be worth serious consideration. It a lot of money by the time you get everything you need to install in a GT, just to have an overdrive 5th gear.(IMHO)
Thanks for the pointers everyone.
I'm new at this and have never really held a wrench before. What's a thrust spring?
Forget the driveshafts I'll let you guys get through it on your own. That's the best way to learn.
Enjoy the experience.
A thrust spring is a spring that is inserted over the output shaft inside the tailshaft housing. It's purpose is to keep tension on the driveshaft yoke and keep space between it and the speedometer drive gear, it also keeps the driveshaft yoke from wallowing around and beating the seal surface on the tailshaft seal and bushing.
Is it a thrust spring or thurst spring? Wher did u say it goz? I dunt understand?
Otto, thanks for making everyone responding to this think I'm stupid.
I don't think anyone on this site is trying to make you look stupid, All of us gained the knowledge we have by asking questions and getting advice about things that we don't know about or wanted to learn about. As the saying goes "the only stupid question is the one you don't ask". I konw I am no walking book of knowledge but I have been around these cars since 1970 and for a lot of those years I had the good fortune to be able to be associated with a few people that had a lot more knowledge about them than I did and didn't mind sharing it.

My uncle has been working on opels for quite a long time and got put through the wringer by his sisters when he was my age. He can tell you how many bolts are on x and what size head it takes, but every once in a while there's something that stumps him and he still learns new things all the time.
I myself am coming off the street pretty fresh, and learning not only about opels, but how cars work in general. I learn new things ALL the time.
Actually, when my uncle and I were putting the Getrag in the white wagon, we were bolting everything up and reallized that the Thrust Spring was still lying on the ground!

Tony I have seen prof. mechs. leave flywheel off when installing engines and we all have a good laugh
and then hope we don't do the same thingIt happens .. your thought process gets out of order , thats why it helps to write down on a install sheet and tag things to remind you to install or tighen a bolt if you have to stop on a project and return to it later. HTH
