Odo Reset

My intentions are honerable. On the race car I am keeping most of the dash, Just because I like the way it looks. I want to reset the odo to zero. That way I will have a easy running total on how many race miles the car has done, it will be good to keep track of for many reasons.

I know this is an iffy subject, it just looks like the speedo is not that easy to crack.

If the speedo is already higher miles then winding it forward with a low speed drill via the cable connection is probably the easiest way. Do it slowly with a rest from time to time to make sure that the mechiniz does not overheat. At 10,000 miles per day a new speedo could be reset to 'zero' in 10 days ...

Opening up a speedo is best left to a VDO trained technician at a proper shop. BTW: They will reset a replacement speedo to the original milage of a car to comply with DOT requirements. So I guess they can reset one to "ZERO" for Off Road Use!

THe "Off Road Use" bit is emphasised to protect Gary and this site from litigation as it is a public Forum and unsafe or illegal advice could open up the writer and the site to litigation = particularly in the litigious U.S. of A.

The continued unsafe advice about wheel offsets is another case in point.
Safety and protection from litigation is NOT "humbug" !

I don't know about resetting the odometer in the speedometer but cracking one open is not a very daunting task, you carefully pry the chrome bezel from the front and remove the glass (carefully is key) and then remove the 2 screws and then you have access to the back. I needed to do this to relubricate the speedo drive bushing.

I think I have a new one for a Kaddet. I don't know if it is the same unit as a GT. It is just the guts. The green paint is still on the screws so I know it has not been messed with. If you want it you can have it for shipping cost plus one six pack of Bud. Pm me and I will dig it out
