I was working in San Deigo this week and saw a GT in a vintage car store for sale for over $9,800. It was a nice car with several modifications. The owner said that he had a deposit on the car.
For the age, condition, mileage and modifications, this price is higher than many I've seen on our board and evil bay for equilivant cars. Are our cars gaining value?

The price is probably on the high side because of it being at a high end vintage auto dealership. The high prices of the cars that are parked next to the Opel help to inflate the Opel's price through osmosis.Jerry

On the rise? I have been trying to sell mine and cant even get anyone to come see it let alone buy it..........
I'm not sure about the whole car, but mint condition steering wheels seem to be just about as valuable as a complete parts car!(and apparently are worth over twice the price of a GT with a rat in it
).

I wonder if that seller had any idea what that would bring. Wow.

I don't think he had any idea. If I remember right, he had a starting bid of $0.99.

Well, he knew it was worth something or he wouldn't have put it up there.
Found a few bidders to fight over it. The glory of ebay (if you're selling). I'm hoping to buy something today, hoping I don't get into a war.

Well I can't complain about the pricing and resale. I just sold my '70 GT with the quad four and the T5. This car was sold to a hotrodder up in New Jersey for $21K including transport.
I have noted however that prices tend to go high depending on who is selling the vehicle. I would be willing to be that if Gill puts a GT on Ebay, the car will sell close to the $10K area.
Makes me wonder what I can get for the '72 with 4.0l........

Probably the first time the car was valued ZmokE himself was sitting behind the steering wheel and that decreased the value a lot.
But serious, I also think that the prices of GT's are rising, maybe due to the possitive impact of the new GT and the huge interest in de media for both the new and old GT.
A while ago I posted a reply in the thread called "Opels for sale in the South" in which I refered to a Dutch auction-site with a lot of GT's for sale :
Marktplaats.nl - de advertentiesite van Nederland
The prices here are significant higher than in the States (note that 1 euro equils approx. 1.35$)

Many of the Opel owners in the USA have thought that the GT is not worth a BIG price tag.
I do see that that thinking is changing now and that is good for all of us
If I sold my GT with a 2.0L 5 speed and ARA AC with all the goodies I have in it I would want top dollar too.
Most of us here on OpelGT.com will never part with our loved ones BUT it is good to know they are finally selling for a higher price
I think we can all be happy knowing the value is increasing to a respectable amount
BTW To jerseyopel I will help you sell your GT send me pics opeljim@ca.rr.com
I saw prices jump on original Mini Coopers just after the new ones came out. And it didn't hurt that The Italian Job remake featured them (as did the original). Then they appeared in the Bourne Identity.
And now that the Opel GT has a new model...... who knows?
Hey! If and when Get Smart comes out with as a retro movie, maybe prices will jump again. But for the really important question of the day; who will play Agent 99? Elizabeth Hurly gets my vote.
I followed the link to the Dutch site, and discovered a GT station wagon for sale. I have seen this car probably 20 years ago on European GT meetings. Good to know it's still around, and now it's for sale !!!
Has goodies like a 2.0 FI, 5-speed, Kadett C front end, manta B rearend, ...
Anyone want to spend EUR 12K (over $16K) for something really special???

I used to own a 72 Opel GT in highschool. Got it brand new. Had it for a couple years until someone rammed into the side of it running a stop sign.
I've been looking for another since, and can't find one that is in decent shape with a decent pricetag..
Anyone here know of any for sell in great shape on the West coast?
