No heat

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I couodn't find a thread dealing with this specific problem. Seems to be a typical problem. I have no heat in my GT. The lever inside only went over about 3/4 of the way, until I checked the control valve and it was stuck. I managed to manually open it and free up the inside lever, but still have no heat. Flushed the heater core, still no heat. Fan blows great. Thoughts? Is the core bad?

Did you reverse flush the heater core? I use a nozzle on the end of a ball check valve attached to a garden hose and run water through each of the hoses numerous times, this will sometimes break loose some of the crud in the core. You may want to check the control valve to be sure it's clean as well and the hose fittings on the engine, they can get clogged up during periods of nonoperation. HTH.

Using a garden hose you should have and equal amount of water outflowing the core as you have going in.... any less or if pressure is built up i would suspect a clogged heater core, there are several cooling system chemicals that are available to help with breaking up the scale that is built up.... just follow the instructions on the bottle...... The other possible issue you may have may be the Flap door in the heater box is not moving. you would need to make sure that the lever and cable is still attached to the Flap door in the heater box...........

Thanks for the info guys. I seem to have the same amount of water coming out as going in, and it really didn't look all that cruddy. Maybe I didn't have enough pressure or something; I didn't use a nozzle on the hose. I also didn't take the hoses off the control valve and flush it. The car has been sitting a while. Just purchased the thing and beginning to learn about it. I will try more pressure and also flushing the valve/hoses. Thanks again.

A lot of crud accumulates in the heater valve. It's attached to one of the heater hoses near the carburetor and it has a 90 degree internal turn. Remove the valve, flush it. You might have to physically poke around in there to clear your blockage.

I have the same problem in mine. My lever would only move 3/4 of the way. I found that the pivot point on the lever is worn and in order to get it to move all the way to the right I push it over as far as it will go then push in and to the right to make the lever travel all the way to the right. I still had no heat and then discovered I have a broken cable as well. Looks like I am in the market for a new cable and heater controls!
