Kadett A/C info

I've done some searching on A/C systems on the Kadett. I just aquired an ARA system out of a wagon. I saw a while back a year or so there was a Rallye Kadett (1968-69) with A/c put on it and the gauges hung below the A/C unit.

Question...was this how they installed it on the car, and then relocated the gauge pack on the bottom of the unit. What about the early style 68-69 Kadett with the full panel gauges that go to the floor from the dash? I seemed to think at one time there was an A-pillar gauge pod for this???? Any info or pictures would be great, and informative to others as well.

. . . the only one that comes to mind is the 1.1 Rallye Kadett with ARA A/C in Fort Worth that was on e-Bay a year or so ago, but had title problems, was withdrawn and then parted out. As you mentioned, the interior evaporator/air-duct unit indeed had the Rallye gauges mounted to the A/C air-duct in the center.

I had already completed most of the underhood modifications for A/C in my '69 and bought that ARA inside unit, but not the gauge pod . . . already had it installed. Did a lot of measuring before starting my A/C modifications and can say that the 'early style, full' gauge panel will not fit once the ARA/GM evaporator/duct unit is installed inside.

Was it the Manta that when A/C was installed they were re-located to the left side or A-pillar??? Does anyone have a picture of that--please. I am looking at options here.

They DEFINITELY did this on at least some of the Mantas. I have a '73 rallye with AC and it has the A-pillar gauge pod. Unfortunately I don't have any pics readily available, but there might be some embedded in the photo galleries.

Yes, that was in the ARA Mantas. There was also a super-rare kit to do that on the Kadett as well, but the only one I've ever seen went for a small fortune on e-bay about 5 years ago and I never did find out who won it so I could make a mold from it to get it reproduced.

Someone is still making/selling the Manta ones, probably Todd at OU.

Rodney Killingsworth (killer TX GT) has one in an Ascona Sedan. He might be able to get pics for you. As for the Kadett version, like Stephen (oldopelguy) says, they're so rare, I've only heard about them, let alone seen an a/c unit in a Kadett.

It would be nice if we could find and post a picture of the Kadett A pillar unit. I suspect someone could mold one then. Not me of course but someone. Any pictures anyone out there??

It was for a Kadett. I had two of them but needed the money. They fit up on the A-pillar and looked nice. Opel came up with the idea a long time before the rice-burner group "invented" them.

When I get my camera back form Opelenvy I will take a picture of the AC unit in my 68 Rallye and it still has the tricluster from the dash to the consul and I can still see the gauges with no problems. And have another idea that will blow you away for a factory AC Unit that will work in a Kadett. Unless Otto beats me to it. You cut two holes and block one and it will we think fall right into place, there hasn't been a better AC solution for an Opel, oh you will need to relocate your battery though!

Yes, the Kadett Rally full panel gauges have to be relocated on the bottom of the A/C unit.
But first you have to shorten the instrument cluster on the upper side .
(--> appr 3 ")
Then you have to bolt the gauge set with steet steel angles to the underside of the A/C unit
